So now that some days have passed, what does everyone think of the new Ghost album, Meliora. You can listen to it in the embedded vid if you haven't already.

Honestly, I was expecting the three tracks that were released prior to the album release to be the best it had to offer, but I was surprised to find out that they actually are some of the weaker cuts in this record, though I use the term "weak" lightly, as I'd say that every song on here is at least as good as the best songs off Infestissumam. I wasn't much of a fan of that album really, though it had some standouts, it really seemed like everything they had going for them turned sour on their sophomore project. But Meliora seems almost like the natural progression from Opus Eponymous, everything that they had going for them there has kind of fully blossomed with Meliora. It's my favorite record from them yet.

But yeah, what do you guys think about it?

It's pretty fucking good.

 No.5279

I would say it's the best Ghost album so far.

And the drums sound fucking awesome.

 No.5283

Cirice kicks inconceivable amounts of ass and the video for it is hilarious. Haven't gotten around to listening to the entire album yet though, maybe once this Pallbearer song I'm listening to finishes up I'll get on that.

On a somewhat related note, anyone ever see these guys live? Seems like it'd be a good time

Ya know, the drums are pretty great, but there's one thing about the percussion on this albums that sometimes bothers me a lot. Some of the songs have this like shaker sound, like those egg shaped things filled with rice or whatever. And it's like REALLY loud, and when it comes up, I sometimes find it hard not to focus on the shaker. Production wise that's probably my only real complaint with this album. Did anyone else notice that though?

Yup, I've seen them twice. Both times were really small venues, probably only a few hundred people. It was really great. It really felt like being part of like this dark worship service. The costumes, the lights, and the music, combined with Papa's rhetoric between songs really made it feel involved. I'd seriously recommend seeing them live.

That was the first thing that caught my attention on From The Pinnacle To The Pit, and I actually liked that.

I think that's the hi-hat pedal, at least it sounds similar to one and is on the left speaker (where the open hats are), the drummer must really like to keep the tempo with is free foot. I liked the hi-hats, they sound so alive in the mix, it's like I can almost touch them through the speakers.

Although I'm not entirely sure since there are times where he makes that sound you talk of but you still hear the open hat sounding which means it didn't close. So either I'm wrong, or it was recorded apart, or he has two pairs of those cymbals.

I didn't like it at first, but it really grew on me.

I'd say it's a great album, but I think Infestissumam is still a bit better.

>>5283

I saw them once. It was exactly like >>5284

says. It was also rather small, but very climatic.

Although I found Papa's forced Italian accent simply funny.

From the Pinnacle to the Pit was the first thing I heard by them, and I initially dismissed them for being too groovy. That swagger, and Papa's vocals are starting to click now: thanks, lads.

In related news is anyone going to be checking out Ghost on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Halloween? I'm going to try to catch it, though I do have work.

 No.5598

still love the album after llistening to it a lot of times. If anyone's missed it, check out this deezer session clip, where they're playing from the pinnacle to the pit, cirice and absolution. I love that scream in absolution. They should have added it to the studio recording and their live performances https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=315qJJ3Y9uA

That scream is indeed a nice addition. I like how Papa lets his voice go a little at the end of it, too.

I don't know, but. The more I listen to these lads, the less I'm digging them. Meliora is well put together, but it's not very adventurous: it's obvious they can write good, catchy radio-friendly hooks and stuff, but the songs don't seem to venture much further than verse-chorus-verse. They don't seem to be pushing themselves too hard.
