I've never really listened to Cynic, but Sean Malone's side project Gordian Knot (which is now defunct I believe) is phenomenal.

Also, if anyone here is familiar with guitarist Tony MacAlpine, then you should check out Planet X. Good stuff, quite progressive and has a sort of "space" feel to it.
