I want to get into black metal what should I listen to?

What do you like right now? I mean we can list entry level black metal all day, but if we just beat you over the head with Darkthrone you'll hate it. If we know what you're used to and work from there we can tailor it to your tastes.

Belphegor got me into black metal. 1349 was the first real black metal band i got into.

>>965Darkthrone, Immortal, and Bathory are a good point of departure. They'res many different styles. What other kinds of metal do you like?

Call from the grave and in the shadow of the horns are my two favourite black metal songs.
Very catchy and riffy.
If you like these two songs check out the swedish black metal band craft and listen to their two latest albums.

I listen to Brutal Slamming stuff, and of course CC.

>>967I listened to some DarkThrone and Burzum and I can dig it.

Black Metal's a highly diverse subgenre that has seen evolution from the moment of its inception.
Assuming you're into Thrash Metal, you might be deeply interested in what is commonly referred to as "First Wave Black Metal". You can start with Celtic Frost's To Mega Therion

>>973I second this.
Throwing in old school Celtic Frost, Hoth, and Tombs.
Portal is also good too.

And if you're looking for something really off the wall, you owe it to yourself to listen to The Meads of Asphodel. Avant-Garde shit.

Start with stuff like Bathory and Celtic Frost and work your way up from there.
My favorite black metal band is Dissection if you want my opinion.

Venom, Bathory, Celtic Frost, Mayhem, Immortal, and Darkthrone are what got me into black metal so I would start with those bands. Dissection and Rotting Christ would also be good choices since their more melodic and more accessible than most other black metal.

>>2786Wow I'm listening to this for the first time and it sounds like pseudo-prog black'n'roll

>>965For now ignore everything from after 1994 with the exception of the first Sacramentum.
Then just start with the classics and work your way down. Say what you will about them, but the fellows down at DMU/ANUS know quality metal when they see it. These would make a decent introduction:

>>2790What this guy said, with the substitution of Immortal for Watain. But the latter isn't for anyone so I wouldn't recommend it to OP. But if you're into kind of 3edgy5me Satanism you should give it a listen.
Dissection is also great for a beginner. I'd start with Storm of the Light's Bane.
