Every fucking day someone admits to being 15 or younger for the purpose of attention whoring. Every fucking day. And it really gives the impression that /tech/ is full of retards. Can we have a rule against underagers? I'm fully aware that it wouldn't actually get rid of the kiddies, but at least they'd shut the fuck up about their age.

Hey, we don't want to give anyone a false impression, eh?

Threads on the site start freezing after 300 posts, is it possible to lower the limit of the cyclicals?

Sent a report but though making a thread might get more attention from the staff.

They seem to be working on my end. Are the posts just updating slowly?

In other news, I'm setting up the 8chan beta board as we speak. Going to add some new banners as well.

I'm looking at the thread at the last post is from 11 hours ago.

The threads and front page aren't frozen if you're viewing it through the mod/hotpockets mode.

What happened to the stickies? Those new OP images make terrible thumbnails and the bg has gone.

3fee82 No.1089

>"Seeing as how cyclical threads are now broken, I guess I'll just have to go back to using normal threads."

Cyclical threads suffer from the posting bug that's affecting all of 8chan more than other threads. The tech support sticky was updating perhaps five times per day, which made it almost useless. Now they're just stickies.

The images are different for no particular reason. The background is different because the board stylesheet wasn't changed.

I changed the images due to the fact that 8chan doesn't generate transparent thumbnails anymore, and neither does the 8chan beta, at the moment. If beta 8chan gets that capability sometime in the future, I may consider switching back.

Can we have djvu support for the board? It allows smaller file sizes which would mean quicker uploads and more files per post and it's an open standard which would keep the freetards happy. Is there a reason not to add it?

You can't just allow arbitrary filetypes in the board settings. This is a change to the site software, so not something we control. Ask in one of these places:

e061eb No.1008[Reply]

Pic related. I can see the thread but it 404's on every client I have. We had literally dozens of Windows 10 threads, why can't we have one on the newest version of Ubuntu?

You'd think it'd stay up, what with Ubuntu being essentially Linux for Nugger.

5e3cb9 No.1009

We didn't delete it. Check the board log:

https://8ch.net/log.php?board=tech

The thread ID is 420266.

It shows up in the catalog, and most likely in the board index, though I haven't checked.

Because of the technical weirdness of 8chan's moderation system, the thread doesn't 404 if I access it with moderation privileges. I made a post in it, and now it's working.

All threads are static pages that are regenerated when they are posted in. Something went wrong with generating this one, but now it works.

A concern was brought up to me today by an anon who was worried about samefagging in certain threads on the board. He argued that enabling IDs would let people spot out samefags who are trying to push a certain opinion or product. The problem with this, however, is how easy it is to change IPs or use proxies/VPNs, and the fact that anyone dedicated enough would just do that anyway.

I wouldn't dare to decide on this sort of thing without popular vote and discussion beforehand. What's your take, /tech/?

I just sent an email about it but I'll post it here too - The apps on the sticky are still Exodus and Infinity, both of which are no longer in active development.

Exodus has lost greentext and doesn't support captcha, hasn't been updated in months now.

Infinity hasn't been touched in over a year and is still horribly broken.

Newer apps are available.

Ouroboros

Developed by a user on /tech/ and available on F-Droid, Github, and GPlay

93976c No.1003

Janitor here, a couple things:

>CP

1. Nice job posting the CP ad, considering youre not advertising it obviously and its just a picture of a chest I wont report you or anything (just FYI)

2. We cant ban people posting the CP. or rather, we shouldnt. This is illegal content, if WE ban them they only get a board ban not a site wide ban, and if we delete the post the IP is lost forever, the best we can do is spoiler it and global report it, waiting for someone on the next level to delete it

>Posting quality

This has been something that I, as a user of the board since the exodus, have also seen a decline in, its not that the majority of the user base has changed to shit posters, its that people will start a lot of bait threads and see which ones take. The thing is the definition for shitposting on /tech/ currently is set so that it has to be so blatently off topic they were trying. People who do these mass spam bait threads often use tor and that means even if we are able to delete the thread for shitposting obviously we cant ban them. The best thing is even if its a personal support thread for instance, if we dont catch it in time and a discussion forms in the thread I am hesitant to delete the thread because what will happen is 5 more threads will be made spouting that the board is dictated by "Rule cucks", a lot of people on 8chan (obviously) hate being censored in anyway, yes, deleting shitposts in by definition censorship.

When I started I would give people 1 minute bans to let them know what they did wrong (thats the smallest I can give). Within a week people were complaining that the moderators were too strict

>>964

for example

and its not just a few people, there was a poll a couple months back that asked if we should be making the rules more strict and it was an overwhelming no

yes, I am completely aware that its extreamly easy to rig a poll.

6aba4b No.1007

>>1003

Do you think anyone actually gives a fuck what /int*/ manchildren think? They're a laughingstock. They've been shitting up the top boards since before January of last year with their retarded raids. They're worse than rugga and co, a bunch of shitposters that intend to do this for the rest of their natural lives, or at least until they're forced to move out into their own apartment and get a job after mommy and daddy either die or kick them out.

Fundamentally there's no way to fix the bait thread problem other than not having a userbase of morons. Guess we'll just have to live with shit because people can't help themselves, wouldn't want to trample on FREE SPEECH even though they fundamentally can't put any effort into it, posting the same shit bait every time and samefagging the thread.

And there's no way to fix the retards who post the same shit: they're autistic and it soothes their autism to have the same thread over and over again. It's much like battlestation threads, it's a comfortable thing for them to post their pasta or a variation on it with their associated image and rack up replies.

>freedom for discussion

What 'discussion' is had in the same fucking bait threads we've seen over and over for years? It's just newfaggots replying to garbage, giving their retarded 2 cents because presumably they've never seen the thread before.

http://rog.ie/blog/html5-boilerplate-addon

Lets get a little feedback and support getting this implemented into 8chan. No one has spear headed this as yet and although I am far from ideal, I decided I should get the ball rolling.

The simple idea is to be able to optimize board css per useragent info and ultimately OS. The plan will unfold in two steps.

1) We need to get HW to accept this minor JS commit.

2) We need to use custom CSS on /tech

This has many benefits. One of which, I am sure we can all agree upon, is to temporarily hide posting elements from windows users when needed. Windows threads being at an all time high, now is such a time.

c47ee0 No.861

So first order of business, how do we present this so as to increase the chances of it being accepted? Does HW still use github?

5ebd2a No.862

I submitted a small commit (one simple line) two weeks ago, and it hasn't been accepted. He'd probably look at it if we emailed him.

Most of the Windows 10 threads talk about how bad it is. I don't know how many of them are made by actual Windows users.

cc8a8b No.998

>>860

>is to temporarily hide posting elements from windows users when needed

Kek, HW wouldn't see the benefit of your commit since it doesn't offer much value, but could be abused like that. It would give admins more control but I doubt he's in a hurry to implement this retarded shit.

Especially when you can just spoof your Windows 10 with internet explorer User Agent to midori/FreeBSD or some shit faggot.
