This thread went downhill from the start. It's kind of hard to read through actually.

I'm hoping to get some actual discussion here from people who are equally concerned on the subject.

How do you feel about the recent quality of /tech/? Looking at the catalog I see anons ignoring the consumer advice and support stickies, botnet, browser, and "do my googling" threads. Hiding them works to an extent, but it doesn't seem to be enough.

There will always be shitposts, but now it feels like we're declining (not even slowly) and we've even lost our spot in the top 5 boards.

Yes, we are. There was just a post that read "How do I build a computer?".

And it was my fault. I'm so very very sorry. The first shitpost came only a wee bit after I mention on plebchan's /g/ that /tech/ is higher quality. I just wanted to get the good /g/cents away from the smartphone threads. Now I ruined /tech/. I'm sorry.

This would actually explain a lot of today.

We do welcome new users and /g/-refugees, but we don't want to turn into /g/. If you ever do recommend users to /tech/ again, inform them of the board stickies we have. These filter a lot of otherwise-would-be-threads. I'm pretty sure you've seen how slow /tech/ can be, this leaves the catalog open for shitposts with a retention of up to 6 days.

+1.

I've replied to too many posts with a link to the wiki page and received a "cool thanks" or "but i want reccuhmmmendations" (which is what the wiki is constructed out of).

two or three bans would be good:
- gives hope to non shitposters
- scares the shitposters from being too retarded

>"but I want but i want reccuhmmmendations"
I've gotten that back more than enough times as well.

>scares the shitposters from being too retarded

I do like the loose atmosphere of /tech/, but maybe it is time for a change of some sort.

I don't know how well bans would work though, 8ch allowing tor and proxy-posting. And once the first ban strikes, the mods will get the "shitposting is free speech too!!" shit and more complaining meta posts. I think that's what guy2k is probably afraid of, but I don't know.

All ideas aside, the last thing I want to see is the splitting of /tech/. I don't think any of us want to watch decentralized /tech2/'s and /realtech/'s pop up. From there it's all downhill.

You were mistaken, guy.

The reason you lost two spots is because of the shitposting that you decided to let stay over the past week and especially few days. And no, those threads don't ever actually facilitate discussion.

Deleting those threads don't 'kill the board.' Shitposters kill the board.

No, all the kids are off on spring break in the US right now.
