Should there be an archive? I didn't see it on 8archive.moe.

If not, is there a reason?

bc989a No.314

We had a referendum about this courtesy of the board owner. Majority were against board archival.

Ah, okay. Mind explaining why? It doesn't seem to me to do more harm than good, but you probably have a good reason against it.

36fe2d No.317

Main arguments against it were ephemerality and such.
if you like a thread, archive it yourself.

>if you like a thread, archive it yourself.

What if you didn't realize you liked a thread and then by the time you realize it it's already too late?

Once this happens enough times you automate your own personal archiving system so it doesn't become an issue. You're downloading it already, what's a few gigs worth of space taken up really worth nowadays?

If you need irrefutable evidence of the existence of a thread you should have used a neutral third party archiving service.

000000 No.519

Archives were one of the factors of imageboard demise. Normies felt even more assured forum-like place needs forum-like discussions.

Start your personal archiver, keep it private, when /tech/ one day decides to change their mind you can make it public. You can switch between publicizing your archiver and keeping it private accordingly.

1ed840 No.596

An archive could be nice so that people could reference it if they had questions before asking. There might have been a discussion of interest that had already 404'd. Just saying.

Also, it would be nice to be able to say "there have literally been 20 threads recommending (DDG, Bleep, BT Sync, Vivaldi, etc) in the past 2 weeks here is the archive link, educate urself newfag"

>ephemerality

What are the benefits of this?

This, I am a newfag and would like to educate myself.

I agree, just seems stupid.

000000 No.803

>>719

no benefits, it's a matter of taste

000000 No.856

8archive still drops multiple images in posts and you want to use that piece of software?

1ea0a2 No.865

Would .pdf be an acceptable format for them to be in?

I probably try scripting, archiver downloads that coverts threads to .pdf then uploads them. Probably every 10 mins?

>Once this happens enough times you automate your own personal archiving system

1. You mean, like, writing my own C programme?

2. What's the point of a web-based forum then? Remember Usenet, IRC, mailing lists? At least IRC was straightforward to log privately.

>Would .pdf be an acceptable format for them to be in?

MAFF. MHTML. First is superior. Second is widespread.
