01787e No.512

In light of the recent destruction on /cuteboys/ and /pol/ caused by a certain anon using a big botnet and a script that can near-instantaneously fill a board with threads, I am implementing captchas a 25 thread-per-hour cap as a precautionary measure in case it happens on our board. Sorry for the inconvenience, but given the circumstances, it's better to be safe than sorry.

He spammed >>>/baphomet/ too, except he didn't make new threads, he spammed all the existing threads.

>>>/operate/20552

All the non-sticky threads in >>>/baphomet/ were spammed with that shit.

2756fa No.528

>>526

Posts within threads are easier to deal with. They make a huge mess, but don't permanently destroy things. They can't push threads of the board.

I might just turn on the max thread per hour setting on the board instead. Also, I might consider recruiting a volunteer to help out with situations like these. I'm not on 24/7. God forbid something happens in my sleep.

I really don't want to resort to a constant captcha if I don't have to, considering our users who use text based browsers or otherwise can't view the captchas.

Have you enabled early 404?

01787e No.533

>>532

No.

I remember some good but inactive threads that eventually got bumped and grew quite a bit. The max thread-per-hour is just to give me some time to respond to these bots and perhaps enable a temporary captcha for a few hours at most.

Is there any way to solve a captcha from a text only browser?

I'm not against them, but it is mildly inconvenient to use an obese browser like firefox to solve it.

2756fa No.536

>>535

There are text-based browsers that support images, although some of them apparently can't load the captcha because the site presents it weirdly.

Try w3m.

Or you can use a graphical browser that's less bloated, of course. Maybe Midori, or Qupzilla.

645961 No.537

I'll see if that works with framebuffer and report back.

It doesn't.

Once the Autistic Menace is gone, could you repeal this?

Thread limits are very bothersome. And if keep these rules, Bui, in some sense at least, wins.

645961 No.543

"links" can be compiled with graphics options, tried this on arch linux but it has trouble with the framebuffer driver I use

Tested the graphics option in an X session, captcha images did load, but links does not support tabbed browsing from the looks of it.

Going to try this out on my gentoo install since it should be using a different driver for framebuffer.

645961 No.549

>>543

After much hassle, this does work.

So any text-based web browser bros that want to be able to solve captchas, links with graphics support will absolutely work.

Links lacks the tabs that elinks provides, but you can still open new windows and switch between then with Alt+0-9

Could not get anything other than directfb to work as it's driver, and somehow multiple keyboard modules are loaded but no information how how to disable one in favor of the other.

645961 No.550

>>549

Note: apparently switching virtual consoles (windows) in Links requires using either of these two drivers: (svgalib, fb)

can the Max thread posts please be raisted to the Max of 750? At least for the stickies.

Hi Techie,

Is there any reason why the two support stickys are capped at 301 posts?

01787e No.851

>>850

That's the set bump limit.

Oh and thread cap's back.

847fde No.866

>>851

Ok then Techie,

Can you please give me a reason why the bump limit is set at 300 for the two main stickys?

Hi Techie

Can you please respond to >>866

Also see https://8ch.net/tech/res/181463.html#q359769

Can you please call for more mods as the current shitpost situation has got to the option where it's effecting the tech support and probably consumer advice sticky.

I've made a couple of suggestions in the above post.

Regards

Anon

The bump limit is for all threads, not just the stickies. It's the default limit. I could raise it a little, but not too much, since old, long, drawn-out threads would likely clog up the board. I'll raise it to 400 and see how that goes.
