Can you guys please start moderating the board?

It's full of duplicate threads, /pol/ style "Redpill me" shit, and general garbage. I can't recall the last time a /tech/ support request was actually locked and sent to the /tech/ support thread like it should have.

since my question was deleted from the sticky, here it is again:
how are the mods dealing with shill/help threads at the moment?
sage?

Case in point:

2 /pol/ net neutrality threads right next to each other on the front page. There are also a few more sitting in the catalog as well!

when threads that are blatant tech support arent taken down it turns into pure shitposting and anger at the fact

Ricing and advice threads need to go

icon themes and terminal colors are important to technology in the same way stickers and paint are important to cars, and there's already a board for that shit

A politically charged technology topic is still a technology topic. If the hypothetical rule "no politics on /tech/, not even tech politics" were fairly enforced, all free software discussion would be banned as free software is inherently political. Only the strictly practical benefits could ever be mentioned, because anything else would be subjective politics.

>/tech/ - "Open Source, the way stallman means it"

Do you really want that?

If every thread is only 100% super serious it would honestly be boring, people like to configure desktops and share it if you dont like it just hide the threads

Yes, autosage.

>2 /pol/ net neutrality threads

The second thread is shit, but the first thread literally says /pol/ threads on the subject are bad thus he wants to discuss it in /tech/, so I fail to see how you can honestly label it a "/pol/ thread".

Oh look, another net neutrality thread! This time from a /pol/ board volunteer! I'm so glad that all we get to talk about is net neutrality! It's not like there are other good threads getting killed because of these ones.

I'm just going to add this here.

I dislike the "tech support/general" thread pinned, you might get one half-assed answer and no follow up questions seem to be allowed. I would like to be able to start my own thread with some important question, and not have it deleted. The board is small enough to be able to handle it.

It's like giving a mouse a cookie. Desktop threads are impersonal selfies that attract a certain kind of person. first, note that ALL rice threads are bound to become desktop threads, as desktop screenshots can show off icon themes and color schemes as well as crops, and the shitposter loves to post their desktop.

I can tolerate them once in a while, but if it happens too often it trains them, like dogs being taught a trick. The trick is posting desktops. Desktop threads start arising daily, and then before they even have a chance to die. It becomes the same shit every day. They attract people who don't even care about the board and just want to post in desktop threads, mindlessly exhibiting their macs with waifu/yiffing pictures open before branching out into other threads looking for an opportunity to derail into moe anime, furfaggotry, rice, or tripfag drama, the only things they come for.

That crowd from /g/ seeks out desktop threads to post in, and they ARE autistic enough to have familiar "home boards" they shitpost in because anywhere else is too unfamiliar, until, of course, they find desktop threads there too. They need to be corralled into 8ch's dedicated wallpaper/rice boards before it's too hard to clean up. If you were on 4chan's /g/ a few years ago, you'll remember that the mods tried to send them to /wg/ once and just ended up getting the board spammed by butthurt bronies and poser weeaboos.

It's not even intrinsically technology related like free software or net neutrality
It's graphic design transplanted into a computer screen and infused with $ man program; vi .program.conf x 100, which is a topic on its own, but one that doesn't seem to have the same effect on boards for some reason. Perhaps because the worst of the desktop-posting crowd just steals configs or sticks to .Xresources.

HOLY SHIT. /pol/ volunteer is claiming the government are "shilling" about net neutrality and had to make his own fucking special snowflake thread. It's getting stupid when people bring up jews, shills, and all this other /tech/ unrelated bullshit. Make it an instant ban, I beg of you.

4c5bc1 No.21

This. Please get rid of desktop threads, make separate boards for consumer electronics and tech support like /a/ does with /rec/.

Also get rid of /pol/shit.

Show us you care guy and haven't been eaten by being a global mod.

I don't think that completely banning ricing threads is the way to go. A strict rule of only one of those threads at a time could work.

eff92c No.23

>>22
Or "all threads must have a discussion topic, rather than asking users to simply post". Desktop threads would be kill, conf sharing would not. People who just posted desktops would be reprimanded.

That would also kill pointless "hey /tech/ what do you use" survey threads that could be conducted more usefully using strawpoll (or not at all because half of them are thinly veiled cantgoogle threads).

I see no harm in allowing one desktop/rice thread allowed at all times as a containment thread much like the pedo and pony threads on /b/ and just delete any other threads of the sort that get posted and then everyone is happy
