I feel the ID's give the threads some coherence, especially larger ones. In a thread with 700+ posts, it's hard to catch-up and know everything that's been said so far. The ID's aid in organizing the thread some so that you could at least respond to a particular chain of replies.
That, and samefagging is a preventable form of shitposting. If you dislike them, jump onto Tor.
