Since the PC version of the game is going to come out two weeks later, I've decided to spend those days without going online and instead watching movies from the 80s that Kojima probably was inspired by.

So this thread is about such films. Give me some ideas! It doesn't matter if it's popular or not, and I'll probably rewatch movies I've already seen.

Oh yeah, anime and tv-shows are welcome too.

 No.1056

For once the old Bond movies, I think he's been inspired a lot by them.

I'll definitely check them out.

 No.1058

The Great Escape - the movie Zero got his code name from in the Virtuous Mission of MGS 3. It's a pretty good movie.

Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb - Pretty much a must see cold war movie and you probably noticed this is where Stranglove in PW got her name from.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers - for obvious reasons.

Escape from New York of course

 No.1073

All of the movies Para-Medic talks about. She is pretty much Kojimas alter ego. They are mostly pre-70s though.

i'd honestly suggest watching these documentaries about modern mercenaries and PMCs

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZVYX2dg-cI

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMjvUt9NIV4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LaSD8oFBZE (apologies for Vice)

All of these are extremely relevant to the whole series (except 2 I guess) but especially MG2, MGS4 and TPP. MGS4 might not have been as cerebral as MGS2 but it's no less relevant since PMCs in real life and the battlefield business of the 21st century are almost exactly like they're portrayed in the game.

Thank you for these, they're amazing. Really, the fact that some of these look like shots from MGS4 show Kojima did his research.
