Probably the least discussed game in the MGS canon.
Kojima always incorporates certain themes in each MGS game and in Peace walker, it was about Peace.
And one thing especially I'd like to talk about is Paz's role in this.
Paz, literally meaning Peace, in the begining had appeared as an innocent person, someone you would want to protect and was someone you(snake) had set out to fulfill her goal of peace.
But then the end of Chapter 5 occurs and suddenly, peace changes. Peace betrays you and sets out to kill you, revealing the whole innocent act was fake. Paz was a metaphor about how fuckle peace can be and how violence takes place once peace turns bad.
I wanted to word this all better but this is the gist of it. Is what I'm saying plausible?

>Peace betrays you and sets out to kill you
Do you think the end of GZ was part of that too? Like first Peace betrays Big Boss in the end of Peace Walker and then when he comes to rescue her, then Peace dies, blows up together with everything Big Boss cared about.

Greatest coop game of all time

I'll have to say that Peace Walker was definitely my least favorite out of the series (Other than Portable Ops, but let's be honest, nobody counts that one). In fact, it was the only game I didn't beat on the first run-through within a month. It took me over two years to beat, because I lost interest in the game until the HD Collection came out, and then finally beat it.
For me the format of the game was a little stale, especially the fact that it pretty much punished you for playing solo when it came to the vehicle bosses (I'm pretty sure there were times that I ran out of supply markers in the middle of a few battles). It also kind of irked me that there weren't that many locations, and the game reused them for multiple missions. The mission based format also got in the way for me, it felt too disjointed and I just wanted to spend more time on missions, but that's hard to do when the maps are so limited.
The story didn't really draw me in that much either, and I in part blame that on there not being in-game cutscenes. Watching the drawn cutscenes didn't do much to keep my attention, to be honest I'm pretty sure I caught myself spacing out a few times. On top of that, the new characters didn't seem that likeable. I really didn't care if Amanda, Cecile, Chico, Paz,or Dr. Strangelove were in danger, in fact I would be fine if we didn't see any of them in MGSV. I'm not sure how to feel about Huey, but that's because I'm not sure how to feel about Otacon either, and they're pretty much the same character. The only new character I actually liked was Kaz. On top of that, the characters of Zadornov and Hot Coldman seemed way too cartoonish to me, and that really soured how I took the story, which I thought felt more like some kind of fan comic rather than the next MGS installment.
I understand that some of these limitations are due to it being a handheld title, and to be honest I can't name the last handheld game I've beaten, but it definitely did introduce some solid additions to the series. The in-game co-op was a great way to change up missions, and I loved the customization features that they added, like weapons and items research, as well as the ability to upgrade Motherbase. While at first I was put off by the fact that I could only carry 2 weapons at a time (or 3 with battle armor), I soon came to realize that it made me make more tactical decisions when planning out a mission. In the previous titles, there really was not much of a need for that, since you had every gun you needed for every situation at once. I'm really glad they're gonna still use these features From PW in MGSV, it'll be a good hybrid between MGS4 and PW gameplay.
Anyways, that's my two cents, I'm interested to hear what my fellow anons think.

>>340The boss battles I'd say were probably some of tge weakest in the MGS seried but when doing the main story, I had no problem beating them all solo. It was only against Peace walker that I ran out of supplies but that was only once.
The comic cutscenes took some time to get used to but it eventually grew on me, so liking them is a matter of personal preference.
The characters were mostly absent I'd say apart from Kaz, Strangelove, Huey, Paz and the villains. Wasn't too much development with all of them compared with previous MGS games but I was about OK with them.
Story I thought was well done, was more simple than previous games but the final sequences after the battle with peace walker were some of the most tense parts of the whole series for me and by the end of it, seeing how snake came to recognize himself as Big Boss and the creation of outer haven were most interesting.
Though after the end of it, I feel that The Boss' character took a turn for the bad. Her final act as Peace walker and snake's realiztion of it, plus those EVA tapes… I couldn't help but feel I lost some respect for her. The government treated her like an expendable dog for so long yet she kept comimg back for more. It's an admirae trait for a soldier, being so loyal but as a person… I was left scratching my head on her.
Gameplay was restricted by the PSP's capabilities so I won't speak too much on it. It wasn't bad but playing it on the PS3 felt that it was quite watered down. It was still fine I'd say.

It was like the second MGS game that I've played after MGS 3. The controls are definitely way better, even for a original handheld title. Subsistence must have some of the most annoying controls ever.
Yeah, it had some flaws, but I am still happy most of the cool parts carry over to TPP.

Anyone who says Peace Walker's bosses were too hard or impossible are bad at action games. They were easy, just tedious as hell. Empty out all your guns, resupply, repeat. If you don't go around wasting all your ammo and you don't have a shitty level intel team the only thing you really need to do is invest the time into beating the bosses. Killed me a few years ago seeing all the people giving the game one star reviews on Amazon because they're too retarded to figure out how to shoot the Pupa and not die.
The game would have definitely benefited from some human bosses, though. Obviously less side ops vehicle battles, too. I think Kojima just wanted to show off how big you could make an enemy in a PSP game and still have the game run at a playable fps.
No.629
>>619The bosses in the main story were easy as you said but their upgraded ones in the side ops missions really required co-op
The second peace walker battle was annoyingly long and the first time i fought it I ran out of supplies. Next time I carelessly died but ilthe third time was a victory though it took like 40mins of repeating the same damn things. The best thing about it was definitely the awesome soundtrack playing which was the only reason I felt so pumped.
Zeke was probably the best battle though.
No.631
>>629Fully upgraded Zeke is a great fight if he doesn't get stuck on the upper level of your MB. And I S-ranked everything in Peace Walker solo, on the PSP. Peace Walker custom was the only real issue because of the time constraint. If you have good equipment the fights are more a matter of time than ammo or damage.
No.632
Peace Walker is great, I wish I wouldn't suck so much with gamepad controls. Legacy collection for PC, when?
No.635
Peace Walker is HEAVILY influenced by Monster Hunter.
For example it does the same thing MH did in Freedom Unite, where it hides the final boss in one of the first levels.
The later level boss fights are made for co-op but can be solo'ed if you're dedicated. Just like MH.
And just like in MH Snake doesn't level up, his equipment does.
