If you donated to the Infinity Dev. Group over Flattr, it seems that they have turned into a scam and you should charge these conmen back immediately by contacting your financial institution. (I realize this includes my support key. I don't give a shit, flood their insecure bullshit report ticket in my name. I see no other way to prove it.) Reports are that they lost their PayPal account recently, and Flattr CEO and only employee @bonq is ignoring all communication from me via their ticket system and Twitter. The icing on the cake is that they blocked me and three others for asking where the fuck 46.74 EUR went.

What is /midpol/'s thoughts on what is going to happen to the oil based powers in the future? Looking at what is happening right now to Russia and Venezuela, what happens if oil is replaced in terms of need? What will happen especially in the middle east with Iran and Saudi Arabia and Syria? I feel like once oil is gone or replaced catastrophe will happen.

Nah. It will gradually be less and less profitable and the countries will either steadily fall into poverty or adapt. I mean, it can't get much worse than it is now in Syria.

Central Asian states will descend into poverty, having nothing else keeping them afloat. Some of the bigger ones, like Saudi, will probably be fine enough for a long time afterwards though, thanks to clever market manipulation they've got some cash in the bank.

Dubai is probably the most forward thinking, turning the entire country into a must-see tourist destination for post-oil cashflow.

South and Central America have been transitioning themselves to become service and tech economies, so good on them, deflating a bubble instead of popping it.

North America doesn't have much stake in it at all, and we'll probably be the first to fully move past oil anyway. Europe will be totally fine as well.

Africa won't notice a difference either, not to say that's a good thing.

Post Civil-War south.

Now with 120% more resource wars!

Oil won't be the problem in the future. With the climate change going on, we will gradually have less soil to plant crops on. The already hot countries will get uninhabitable hot, big parts of the northern shore of Europe, Scandinavia and a huge chunk of the Netherlands will simply disappear into a lot of sea.

My prediction is that russia will be pretty fucked, as the summers there are already incredibly hot and will probably become inhabitable, so Russia will have to do something. Same goes for the US. Also, we will have to deal with huge amounts of immigrants from said warmer countries.

The problem won't be oil, but food.

We have more than enough oil for at least a century, honestly. And if it were to ever be phased out, it'd be nuclear energy or some form of it. Solar and wind just aren't good enough, and are quite inefficient in terms of cost if you look at it from an economic and sustainable point of view.
