 No.12282

There have been threads about songs, videos, illustrators, etc…

But what about lyrics?

Post your favourite songs lyrics-wise!

Or any song you like for its lyrics.

Write a few sentences about why you like it, if you can.

For example, in Eight hundred, I really like the clever/silly opposites across the whole song. How she tells everything in a reversed way to imply everything is a lie. How the blatant lies set up the stage for the personal lies that she's being dishonest with her feelings. Right until the end, where she becomes honest, but then says she's not sure if "it's true or not anymore".

Warning: this songs has feels

Even though this song is supposed to be a sombre, depressing piece, I find it quite uplifting like a strange sort of catharsis.

I guess it reminds me of bad times while keeping in mind that better times will come eventually.

I wouldn't say this song is one of my favorites but I found it kind of interesting since it's cute but also slightly dark(? can't think of a better word) in a way.

>>12284

That song starts out really cute and then just turns around and sucker punches you.

>>13466

I found it to be more depressing since at the end she's still waiting for that day to come.

I'm fairly certain I'm the only person who found any sort of uplifting quality in Crier.

Hocus Pocus is a strange one. I want to say it's cute, but the story is pretty damn dark. It is a nice song though.

Death Should Not Have Taken Thee is just adorable. The story is lighthearted and cute, and I love how it parodies classic JRPGs. I can't honestly say I recognise every reference, but it's definitely a favourite of mine.

Körpertemperatur

It's the second song of supposedly related 3 songs(since they have similar illustrations).

Each song is good on it's own, but my order would be 2nd 1st and 3rd.

And about the song:

I can't say I fully understand the lyrics, but the parts I do, tell a really comforting/consoling experience(for me at least).

Here's my crappy interpretation:

It starts off with "waking up in a cradle of darkness" and "hearing the cry of a heart(?)"

"slowly raising the head" and "touching a warm hand that reached out"

"first time seeing the sunlight was terrifying", "connect those small hands, towards a dazzling scenery"

"so that your tears don't flow, I give you the sound of blessing" "please don't grieve anymore, because I'll embrace that body(yours?)"

"slowly taking a step forward, this gentle and cruel world" "seeing through the heat of the skin, trembling"(?) "carry that faint voice, to a new world"

"so that you don't get lost anymore, I'll become your eyes" "so don't close those eyes, because I'm always with you"

"the pain of living on(?), breaking down crying" "watching your figure, shouting that name(yours?) as many times as needed"

"now, in this star(on this planet?)" "I make a wish for you"

"now, in this star(on this planet?)" "for you, this song"

"so that you can walk forward, I sing the song of hope"

"(because)now, tomorrow and from here on, you aren't alone anymore…"

I think the analogy is a strong one. Everyone is at least familiar with the experience of anxiety originating from existential terror. Love/death or no: we are all regularly confronted with the suffering that is life.

You used a lot of words to say "this song is about how life sucks".

I'm looking forward to reading your opinions about other songs.

The Ke-san Voxx series and Jin series were both good.

Th Earth's Final Confession was especially good. A story of how [spoiler]some girl wishes for immortality then ends up being the last human on Earth. She realises she loved her childhood friend who died thousands of years ago. Then died after she confessed her love for him. This song convinced me immortality is not worth is.

[spoiler]The Next song, "Reincarnation" reveals that all the previous song protagonists are all reincarnations of of each other, then that enlightened individual finally realises that wishing for things is silly and tells God to kick rocks.

>This song convinced me immortality is not worth [it].

I think that's a common message in songs and other media because people like to think that a thing they seemingly can't obtain (immortality) isn't a good thing to have after all. This kind of thinking is called "sour grapes."

Isn't it a bit strange that the alternate perspective — that it would be good to remain youthful and healthy rather than to become old and decrepit and ultimately to die — is never presented?

Here's the other side of the story, as given by a philosopher in The Journal of Medical Ethics:

What I meant was if some magical creature offered you immortality, don't take it. No point if you can't take your loved ones with you.

I agree with you, but I have different reasons for not accepting an offer of immortality.

Speaking of lore, I was just wondering who the bottom-right person is. This admittedly-low-quality screencap was taken from the Reincarnation music video.

I know that top-left is Yuuto the main character of Life Reset Button, top right is the male version of Gumi the narrator of Life Reset Button (those interested in the light novel can read it on tumblr, it was translated by soup), bottom-left is Riku, the protagonist of 6 trillion years and a night.

But I have no idea who the bottom-right character is.
