Hey there, /miku/!

What do you guys think of these new Vocaloids?

Comments? Concerns?

 No.16385

I think they sound pretty good. It's always great to see English Vocaloids work well, but I'd need to listen to more stuff to give a final judgement.

 No.16426

Their designs are not particularly cool-looking or exciting. I'm picky because so many vocaloid characters have awesome character designs (Miku, Rin&Len, IA, Yukari, Flower, Rana, etc.)

On the bright side, they seem to have many of the better-known Western producers aboard. But really, Dex's color-scheme (tan skin, gold eyes / accents, silver or white hair) is really hackneyed and Daina's outfit isn't very appealing. Miku has over 1000 really cute and/or cool outfits but Daina couldn't get just one?

They sound decent to me, although I agree with >>16426 and >>16428 on their designs. Dex looks slightly better, but he's still not great.

I do hope they end up being popular, though. I feel like not many people like the Engloids.

Voices sound ok, but I don't like the designs.

On VocaloidOtaku there was a lot of conflict involving the outfits, and the fact that they have ears and tails in general. A lot of people don't like those additions.

For the base of the designs, DeviantART user SteelEmissary was the one to make the art. When talking with Zero-G, AkiGlancy, and Kenji-B, they decided to go with a Fox and the Hound approach. When it was first brough up they laughed it off like a joke, but after letting the thought sit in long enough they went with it. Aki said that The Fox and The Hound was her favorite movie when she was young and that the Fox and Hound concept is actually fairly commonplace in the UK, where Zero-G is based. So in a way they're trying to nudge it over to the UK audience a tad.

About Daina's pants. It was something they decided from the very beginning. "Steel, you can do whatever you want for the designs, but for the love of God make sure to give her pants!

And on the color, again, it was all up to Steel's interpretation.

mmm. so there's not good reception about their desings. Oh crypton goddness (this might be) another Bruno y Clara case

 No.16743

I think it's best for designs to have something technological or futuristic about them to connect the characters back to the idea of voice synthesizer technology. Otherwise they will look like random OCs and nobody will draw an intuitive connection to what they are supposed to represent.

I don't think it's a very restrictive design constraint because "future" is so open to interpretation.

Oh lawdys, shall we go back to the dark ages of the 2000s when everyone and their mothers were trying to come up with the most Mary-Sue OC vocaloid (aka. pitchloids) possible?
