I missed the beginning and peak of Miku and Vocaloid. I didn't even really even hear about Vocaloid until 2013 and I didn't even start to like it until 2014 or so.It makes me so depressed to realize this fact. I missed when Miku came out, I missed PoPi

It makes me so depressed to realize this fact. I missed when Miku came out, I missed PoPiPo and Triple Baka and all those classics.

I didn't even have the internet until like 2011 (Povertyfag).

Can someone tell me what it was like to be a fan back then so that I might experience it even a little.

For the most part it's basically the same; a lot of music being made using the Vocaloid software. There are now a lot more Vocaloids and UTAUloids now than there were but most of it is pretty obvious.
Is there anything specific you wanted to know about?

Also just because you were not around when a song was released doesn't mean it's any less special for you. There are still songs that I discover regularly thanks to people in the plug on Miku Monday.

If you want a nice history lesson about the (popular)songs, go and watch the weekly rankings FROM THE BEGINNING.

is a good place to start. Every video is ~30 minutes, but it's enough if you only watch the "Top 30" segments.
If you do this, you'll notice how much things and quality changed over the years. It feels like a small time travel into the past. It might take a long time, but I think it's worth it.

I wouldn't worry about it. I got into the fandom through the Project Diva games getting localized and I've felt like I missed out on too much.
