Just bought a Vintage Modified Squier Jazzmaster. How is it? Was it a bad purchase? Gonna use it for gigs as I don't wanna rek my Fenders, Gibson and antique Epis.

 No.128

I heard the Vintage Modified squiers are really nice.

You didn't try it on before you bought it?

 No.142

They're nice man, it's a good purchase as long as the condition is good.

Also makes a good alternative for a gibson for those slower songs where you really want some thickness.

Where do I request or commission someone to make specific music?
Like turning 8-bit into music with real instruments and composing some new music in the same vein of some themes I can never find elsewhere.
Also do you folks keep sound effects, themes and song libraries on your PC?

So what's influenced you the most in music making?

Was it a band?
A movie?
A Movement?

What makes you make music? Why?

 No.135

I can't say for sure what got me into it in the first place, but most everything I listen to influences what I make at least a bit.
No movies though. I get a lot of inspiration from the news, from drugs and from
>tfw
if that counts, I guess. Does it?

 No.138

by far the style of self-educating i did early on, with heavy focus on the fundamentals of music theory.
when i work with what my guitarist comes up with, i will usually deconstruct the guitar, and piece together my part.
as a result, my basslines always have a jazz feel to them, despite never listening to much jazz.

General tips on developing personal styles and discussion on what you've been trying to achieve in your work lately.

Lately after taking a break from music I've found that almost all my pieces are much less generic. This is because a lot of my music has dissonance right now. I've been wondering if others sometimes feel that they should maybe remove some of the dissonance to make it more accessible and to sound "sweeter". I'm still not sure if I'm good at using it but I've personally been enjoying the sound of my songs more even though they might be objectively worse.

Just listen to a ton of music. I've found that it's not just an on; off switch. I felt like I was getting warmer and warmer as time went on.

It started with Radiohead, then electronic music, then indie-electronica-psychedelic pop, and then I decided I have a strong, burning, passionate desire to make the latter.

Let's get this board started. 4chan's /mu/ has always been a real prick about sharing your own music, and this board has the potential to be chill af.

Does anyone else use trackers?
I use sunvox because I can work on the go with my smartphone, but I'm thinking about moving over to renoise. Gonna miss my modules though.
Discuss trackers, or any DAW whatever, not expecting much traffic here anyway.

 No.13

hexadecimal makes me never get into renoise enough to become fluent. Do you make breakcore? Seems like the only reason to use a tracker, but maybe I just don't know what else they're good for.

 No.20

>>13
You get used to the numbers pretty quickly, and In modern trackers you don't really have to deal with them anyway, unless you want to. I use it mostly because sunvox is the best alternative for making music on android, but I also find the workflow more enjoyable then the ordinary horizontal sequencer. Dealing with long samples sucks, but other then that there's really nothing stopping you from making whatever you want too.
Here are some tracks I made with sunvox on my phone(using cheap in-ear plugs so might sound like shit but whatever).

 No.52

I use renoise all the time. It's my main DAW. It's pretty intuitive strangely enough and it's all in one window except for the VSTS optionally.

It's really great for jungle, dnb, break* anything because the sampler is pretty simple and old school and doesn't suck complete ass.

It's especially great for processing breaks. I can just take a measure of a break like a bar, sync it to a bar of a tempo, chop it up equally into 8ths, set note jumping to 1/2 a beat, and make some crazy shit.

Webm incoming.

I was about to ask if anyone used SunVox. Turns out I'm not the only one.

I also tend to use SchismTracker.

TIP for BAST SNEARRE EVRE: 3 analogue generators - 1 for noise, 2 for sines. Sines need to play C3 and A2 respectively (and I mean C4 is middle C). If you want a bit of extra kick, feed it into an appropriate flanger and feed that flanger into a limiting distortion.

I've been playing piano for about 13/14 years now, and I never disciplined myself to be able to play independently with both hands. (right hand: melody, left hand: accompaniment)

I can do rhythmic chords and arpeggios with my left while my right is doing the melody without thinking about it, but that's pretty much it when it.

I've tried the practice of playing each part with each hand individually until it becomes second nature and putting them together in the end, but once I try to really play with both together I find myself not being to put the left on auto-pilot and keep focusing on what it's doing.

Advice? What do you other pianists do to discipline yourself to be able to put the left on auto pilot (past the basics like arpeggios and chords obviously)? Hoping there are other ways of going about it that I haven't thought of cause I want to start learning classical pieces.

 No.46

>>45
Only thing I can suggest is practice, practise, and little more practise for good measure.

Try learning songs that aren't too complex, but where both hands aren't playing the same thing. Also, look up some hand independents technique tutorials, and practise a few of those once in a while.

As a drummer, I like to play with metric modulation, so I'd play 4/4 on my right and 3/4 with my left, then switch them over. But that's more rhythmic rudiments that I've converted to piano, rather then proper piano techniques.

 No.47

>>46

Yeah I do need to just buckle down and practice a lot more than I have been.

I mainly learned hymns and contemporary pieces when i took lessons (welcome to the bible belt), and since then on my own I've just done jazz (mainly ragtime) and my own improv'd style. However I'd like to put my piano to real use and learn classical pieces.

Been working on this piece as a starter, which is going alright but the left hand has been a bitch to put with the right: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtIW2r1EalM

I just feel like shit 'cause as someone who has been playing since 6 years old, I -should- be able to do classical pieces fairly well, but lack of real discipline kept me fiddling with jazzy stuff that doesn't require proper technique.

thnx for the advice

 No.48

>>45
Same boat as you OP, I just have only been playing for 6 years though. I'm assuming you can play simple pieces like canon and D and stuff that mostly plays off of chords? That's basically how far I can go with the left hand.

 No.49

>>48

yeah I can play stuff like that and jazz/ragtime tunes that only have the left hand playing rhythmic stuff and subtle stuff.

I mainly do my own stuff, tbh. Improvisation, fiddling with very ambient tunes, and minimal songs.
