how do I start making music? I tried torrenting FL Studio but it seems to be the demo version

can someone provide me with links/advice? I'd dabble in all genres

hey /mm/, im stuck in a rut. i have a professional musician friend who reposts my tracks often on soundcloud, and they get upwards of 1k-10k plays, but my follower count is hardly growing. what am i doing wrong? i'm being followed by some big names such as Joe Kay, Lindsay Lowend, and Evil Needle, but the general audience doesnt seem to enjoy my tracks.

in case anyone wants a link

there's a 5-week course being taught near to where i live to use albeton live. it costs just over £100 in total. should i go for it or are there better DAWs to learn? (the only prior experience i have with this stuff is making crappy EDM on mixcraft 6). thanks

Guitar Thread

What is your current axe?

What would you like to have?

Personally I'm a sucker for a Les Paul, they're what I immediately think of when thinking about guitars, and I've ever heard one I didn't like.

Drums General

Opening the board with what is blatantly the most important instrument!

What kit do you play and what style?

Pic is my piece of shit and I rock and dance punk mostly.

hi /mm/, I'm looking for some feedback both about the production side and the musical side of my tracks, I want to improve my music but to do it I need all the feedback I can get! Thanks for listening!

if my lowest note is C2 and my highest note is G5, what is my vocal range?

I know little about it but I know enough to know I didn't hit the C2 with fry and the G5 with falsetto, they were both my real voice

pic unrelated

I'm feeling really down in the dumps. I found a guy recently who has a wide taste in music to play with, but he can't play drums and neither can I. We've pretty much got all other bases covered. We don't have a particular sound we're going for or anything, we just want to experiment and see what comes out of us creating together. It's going great so far I guess but we need a drummer. I figured there might be other people out there who are in a similar situation, I'm kinda bummed about it, and figured I might be able to help out by making this thread.

TL;DR : So, post your area code and what you play/what genre you'd like to play in this thread. Lets see if we can get some bands formed.

Future

Guys, I'm in an internal crisis right now.
I'm still in high-school, but I'm close to graduating, and I'm not sure how to proceed. I want to go to college and get a Sound Design degree while making and improving my music but I have a few issues…

My music isn't all that good right now, and I'm not sure if I'll ever get that good. I'm not sure how useful a Sound Design/Sound Engineering degree is.

I'm really unsure of where to go from here, and I this is my future I gotta think of. Any advice would be appreciated.

Just bought a Vintage Modified Squier Jazzmaster. How is it? Was it a bad purchase? Gonna use it for gigs as I don't wanna rek my Fenders, Gibson and antique Epis.

Where do I request or commission someone to make specific music?
Like turning 8-bit into music with real instruments and composing some new music in the same vein of some themes I can never find elsewhere.
Also do you folks keep sound effects, themes and song libraries on your PC?

So what's influenced you the most in music making?

Was it a band?
A movie?
A Movement?

What makes you make music? Why?

Personal Musical Styles

General tips on developing personal styles and discussion on what you've been trying to achieve in your work lately.

Lately after taking a break from music I've found that almost all my pieces are much less generic. This is because a lot of my music has dissonance right now. I've been wondering if others sometimes feel that they should maybe remove some of the dissonance to make it more accessible and to sound "sweeter". I'm still not sure if I'm good at using it but I've personally been enjoying the sound of my songs more even though they might be objectively worse.

In True Color

So yeah normally when it comes to 4chans general /mu/ I would never dare share anything I've made or done because nearly everyone there has become judgmental scum, but here you go. It's a bit of a mix of your standard EDM bullshit but there's odds and in's in here. Hope some people like it! And if you're interested feel free to buy it! (Money rules and having no job sucks) Soundcloud is also provided.

Bandcamp Share Thread

Let's get this board started. 4chan's /mu/ has always been a real prick about sharing your own music, and this board has the potential to be chill af.
So who's in a band / writes music / records abstract farting noises? Share your bandcamp or whatever you've got, but remember to COMMENT ON OTHER PEOPLE'S.

I write experimental folk-punk.

Trackers

Does anyone else use trackers?
I use sunvox because I can work on the go with my smartphone, but I'm thinking about moving over to renoise. Gonna miss my modules though.
Discuss trackers, or any DAW whatever, not expecting much traffic here anyway.

I've been playing piano for about 13/14 years now, and I never disciplined myself to be able to play independently with both hands. (right hand: melody, left hand: accompaniment)

I can do rhythmic chords and arpeggios with my left while my right is doing the melody without thinking about it, but that's pretty much it when it.

I've tried the practice of playing each part with each hand individually until it becomes second nature and putting them together in the end, but once I try to really play with both together I find myself not being to put the left on auto-pilot and keep focusing on what it's doing.

Advice? What do you other pianists do to discipline yourself to be able to put the left on auto pilot (past the basics like arpeggios and chords obviously)? Hoping there are other ways of going about it that I haven't thought of cause I want to start learning classical pieces.

Guys, i have a massive problem when it comes to making music.
I am a metalhead of sorts, but i love funk. I play Bass and guitar primarely bass. If i make anything with the guitar its metal of sorts and if i do anything with my bass it turns in to Slap n' pop :c
what do /mm ?
