how do I start making music? I tried torrenting FL Studio but it seems to be the demo version

can someone provide me with links/advice? I'd dabble in all genres

dunno what that is

it's definitely possible, but whenever a brand new product pops out, there's a bunch of bunk torrents with non-working keygens

i have no idea about the features, haven't used FL since version 8 in like 2007-2008

Try reaper
Try a midi input of some sort, guitar and other traditional means works aswell but it requires a way to have an input through a soundcard.
I would suggest doing the simpliest of things
audacity, sample, that's it.

given that you somehow cant get it, the demo still exports mp3 and wave files.

Depending on how much of a perfectionist, you are, I would still say, that it doesn't take much more than an afternoon to make a track.

Especially when you're just messing around with it.

>>56

I have tried flp 10 or something, I honestly prefer version 3.5 because of the being used to it.

As fra as I am concerned, the only thing you will miss in the later versions,

would be the plugins, which can be applied and used for older versions some plugins

hey /mm/, im stuck in a rut. i have a professional musician friend who reposts my tracks often on soundcloud, and they get upwards of 1k-10k plays, but my follower count is hardly growing. what am i doing wrong? i'm being followed by some big names such as Joe Kay, Lindsay Lowend, and Evil Needle, but the general audience doesnt seem to enjoy my tracks.

in case anyone wants a link

You need to advertise yourself more and better.
Shill everywhere.
You have the sounds, make sure they reach the right ears.
It's gonna be hell.

there's a 5-week course being taught near to where i live to use albeton live. it costs just over £100 in total. should i go for it or are there better DAWs to learn? (the only prior experience i have with this stuff is making crappy EDM on mixcraft 6). thanks

Never waste free time that could be spent practicing on your own on music production lessons. They don't have anything substantial to teach you.

 No.145

Ignore this goon.

Avoid FL studio like the plague.

 No.146

sounds like a good deal for that price. how many hours is the course? you'll learn much faster from a professional than teaching yourself online. can you find reviews of the course?

Ignore this sheep.

FL Studio's pretty sick and user friendly. If you want a few examples of people who use FL, there's Martin Garrix, Avicii, Basshunter, Mt Eden, ERB, Afrojack and Skream.

From what I've heard, however, Ableton is more powerful, but takes more time to master. Users include Skrillex, Deadmau5, Bassnecter, Daft Punk, Knife Party, Wolfgang Gartner and everyone else you've heard of in the past five years.

ChingLiu's torrents are good for getting either. Get NI Massive and FM8, as well.

Personally I'm a sucker for a Les Paul, they're what I immediately think of when thinking about guitars, and I've ever heard one I didn't like.

Didn't really know much about this brand before I bought this, but when I tried it, I liked the sound and feel of it. Usually bought Ibanez before this.

I don't really know what else I'd want, personally. I could probably answer this question if this was bass, since I'm more of a bass player.

What kit do you play and what style?

Pic is my piece of shit and I rock and dance punk mostly.

This isn't a recent pic (because I've just got back from a gig and cba to set it up), but it isn't much different then this, things are just a little closer now cuz it's set up in the corner of the room in the pic.

I guess that explains why it's not a necessity in composition and also doesn't require any knowledge of tone

I know little about it but I know enough to know I didn't hit the C2 with fry and the G5 with falsetto, they were both my real voice

I'm feeling really down in the dumps. I found a guy recently who has a wide taste in music to play with, but he can't play drums and neither can I. We've pretty much got all other bases covered. We don't have a particular sound we're going for or anything, we just want to experiment and see what comes out of us creating together. It's going great so far I guess but we need a drummer. I figured there might be other people out there who are in a similar situation, I'm kinda bummed about it, and figured I might be able to help out by making this thread.

TL;DR : So, post your area code and what you play/what genre you'd like to play in this thread. Lets see if we can get some bands formed.

Guys, I'm in an internal crisis right now.
I'm still in high-school, but I'm close to graduating, and I'm not sure how to proceed. I want to go to college and get a Sound Design degree while making and improving my music but I have a few issues…

My music isn't all that good right now, and I'm not sure if I'll ever get that good. I'm not sure how useful a Sound Design/Sound Engineering degree is.

I'm really unsure of where to go from here, and I this is my future I gotta think of. Any advice would be appreciated.

 No.152

Listen to a lot of music, and really define your style.

After this, there's one thing you need to accept: you won't make any money for a very long time, and you need to internalize that. Get a day job, get the cheapest apartment you can, minimize your expenses, and save as much money as you can. Make it a personal initiative to save money.

Choose your DAW of choice, and dick around with it. You'll figure it out eventually, and if you ever need any help, there's infinite information for each DAW online. Try making covers in your style to start with, to get used to the idea.

Market your music and work either to make it as an indie artist, or get signed to a label, depending on your preference.
