I can't say for sure what got me into it in the first place, but most everything I listen to influences what I make at least a bit.
No movies though. I get a lot of inspiration from the news, from drugs and from

by far the style of self-educating i did early on, with heavy focus on the fundamentals of music theory.
when i work with what my guitarist comes up with, i will usually deconstruct the guitar, and piece together my part.
as a result, my basslines always have a jazz feel to them, despite never listening to much jazz.
