So, let me get this straight.

This is a Muslim board that allows lewd pictures of half naked women and rejects the Prophet?

Astounding.

Why not just convert to Christianity so you can be more popular, less apologetic about your own faith's tenets, and generally less associated with wanton murderers?

How can you reform a religion that is based on a book that is mean't to be taken as the pure work of god? These are all hateful verses from the Quran! Context or not this is troubling!

You cannot rewrite this book! What can everyday Muslims with a working brain do to change these nasty things!? Write them out? The Quran is not like the Bible where the books have been changed, rewritten so many times. (The Bible is more like the Hadith)

What can actually be done is retranslate. Understand that the Quran was not written in a fully understood language, and much of what we understand of it today comes from 8th century Iraqi linguists who read the text with all the temperance and gentleness of 8th century Iraqis.

The bigger problem is philosophy and lifestyle of religious worship and adherence. People are flexible when it comes to what they choose or not choose to follow in a book. They're less understanding when it comes to rituals, religious leadership and membership, and culture.

a3b7d4 No.205

>>158

>Context or not this is troubling!

>context

Why do you have a problem with context? In any language, any book, any thought process; context is everything.

You can't read 2:191-193 without first reading 2:190.

Here's what you're doing when you remove context.

The sign reads: If you have children, please step to the back of the room.

You're saying that the "then" part of the statement is all that is there. You step to the back of the room and look around and wonder why all those children are there.

You say: The sign said step to the back of the room.

Context says: IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN

2:190 puts the brutality of 2:191 in context. Proving, without a doubt, that 2:191 isn't really all that brutal.

2:190 turns "kill them all" into "if they fight you, defend yourself".

Not Muslim, but I've seen his debates with Anjem Choudary. Vid related.

Obviously Choudary is a hothead, but as a non-Muslim, for all I know he could be kicking ass with scripture. These guys never sit down with their holy texts and really analyze shit.

It's always:

1) No, the Qu'ran doesn't say that

2) Woah, you're really misinterpreting that

95eb87 No.201

>>167

Maajid Nawaz is a liberal infiltrator and Quilliam is a government sponsored apologist think tank. Everything he preaches undermines what we would think of as conventional Islam. He married a non-Muslim who didn't convert, he's a gay rights activist, he's glib on sexual immorality and thinks it's fine to eat pork.

http://www.newstatesman.com/politics/2015/04/nice-try-maajid-nawaz-you-didn-t-go-lapdancing-club-because-you-re-feminist

Choudary doesn't read Arabic so he's not exactly an authority but afaik he doesn't pretend to be. He's an edgelord, a firebrand, and if popular belief is to be respected, an Mi5 plant.

How about a general question tread?

#1, how does modern Islam deal with the issue of Mohamed`s wife Aisha? Her being six when they married an being nine when she got shagged.

#2 What`s the deal with Jizya?

#3 What does the Quran say about world domination?

#4 What does the Quran say about bestially? (Goats specifically)

#5 How should Muslim Astronauts pray? On the ISS they`ll go round the earth something like 33 times a day.

#6 What would you say to those that see immigration from Muslims as a threat to there native culture.

>Real Islam doesn't threaten native cultures

The Sassanids, the egyptian kopts, the medinian pagans, the sunworshippers and hindus of afghanistan, the christians of Aksum along with various other groups that do not exist anymore due to muslim warfare since muhammeds rise might disagree with you.

11532c No.134

The obvious meaning here is that the subjugation of these groups was not real Islam, but your bog standard Medieval oppression of the powerful against the powerless.

To their credit, at least, there are still Zoroastrians and Copts in Iran and Egypt after all this time, and it's really been in the last century or so that suppression reached a fever pitch with the rise of nationalism and Pan Islamism.

a7f4d6 No.192

>>134

>rise of nationalism and Pan Islamism

Which in itself was in response to imperialism.

Another question mulslim bros.

What do you think are the main theological differences between Islamic and Christian doctrine? Also what do you think are the most important practical differences between the two?

365a04 No.195

>>134

All proselytizing faiths erode and destroy native cultures over time. It's interesting that the default position of most ethnic or pagan religions is to not seek converts.

d72588 No.200

>#4 What does the Quran say about bestially? (Goats specifically)

I'm not the one to shill for Sunnis but bestiality was only addressed by a Twelver Shi'a fatwa. Not not sure whether they drew this from fiqh or from their own canon of hadiths. Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of Islamic Iran, supreme leader and its once preeminent religious authority, said it was permissible but discouraged it.

Give it a couple decades. Don't expect it to last long, though. Climate change is going to consume the Earth and there are no good "alternative energies", so civilization will inevitably collapse and that means the Day Of The Rope will commence - a reversion to the ancient ways

Got invited here from /atheism/. Prove God exists.

Challenge mode: not pic related. The big bang coming from a "something" does not mean that this "something" had a conscious will

While I'm at it, a few moar questions:

>Why does god care so much about pictures/idolatry? Anyone with adult reasoning capacity should be able to distinguish an icon from the diety himself.

>Now that we have germ theory of disease and can fight meat born parasites with proper sanitation, why is halal/haram still needed?

>Why does god care so much about (moderated) drinking? If he;s omnipotent, then why did he only ban alcohol and not yet-to-be-invented drugs like meth or krokdil?

979c53 No.178

>>177 Why does god care so much about pictures/idolatry? Anyone with adult reasoning capacity should be able to distinguish an icon from the diety himself.

Read up on history, descent into idolatry has been a problem for many religions, including Christianity today.

>>177 Now that we have germ theory of disease and can fight meat born parasites with proper sanitation, why is halal/haram still needed?

Halal food restrictions are based entirely on Hadith, not the Quran.

>>177 Why does god care so much about (moderated) drinking? If he;s omnipotent, then why did he only ban alcohol and not yet-to-be-invented drugs like meth or krokdil?

It's not up to us to answer "why" God did what he did. But many interpret the Quran as being against all intoxicants, not just alcohol specifically.

You're never going to find ANYTHING of value in the words of an average believer, let alone a goddamn Muslim. Most people can't think in complete sentences, let alone articulate why they believe in…well, anything, really. Read thinkers like Aquinas, they will at the very least be a little more exciting because they actually know how to think in a principled manner and make a case.

Second to that is that stupid Abraj Al Bait thing in Mecca. I can compare these things to the Disneyland known as the Vatican.
