/his/torian here, I think it's incredibly useful to study to understand and break down the monolith that is modern Hadith dominance in Muslim society. Klingschor is a pretty cool guy with good videos attacking both anti-Muslim bigots and Islamists.
Another is Ian D Morris. Then there's the old school like Patricia Crone and Fred Donner, who has a neat lecture on YouTube on what he thinks Muhammad's Islam was before it became Islam as we know it.
