With the addition of the Insect Glaive and the Charge Blade in MH4U, what kind of new weapons would everyone want to see in future monster hunter games?

 No.50

Ones that aren't as flashy as the insect glaive and charge axe.

Like maybe a ball and chain or something along those lines.

 No.58

Definitely a new ranged weapon

 No.61

Just 2h axe.

Motherfucking Spears and Polearms for fuck's sake

Nearly every civilization in history has utilized them, but videogames always neglect them.

There's no reason a quasi-primitive world like MonHun's shouldn't have spears.

And seeing as the tech level is getting wonky as hell with all these hypermechanical and blackpowder weapons, why not dual pistols? Mid range, high fire rate, ultra mobile bowguns.

 No.88

I've always been a fan of Polearms myself though there are very little games that use them so this would be great
If Monster Hunter were to add a polearm (other than Insect Glaive) it'd most likely be a scythe since Monster Hunter either wants it to be badass or original and scythes would fill that roll
On the Insect Glaive though I like how they made it able to pole vault which a lot of early polearms did so that's pretty good

The Insect Glaive is quite interesting, but it still strikes me as a particularly strange weapon.. It's not just a staff. It's some weird sort of bug thing where you use it like a longsword, but then you send out a bug that gives you powerups and shit..

It's neat, don't get me wrong.. But it doesn't feel like the monster hunter version of an existing weapon. It's just this weird mash up of mechanics.

I'd like to see staves. I'd like to see polearms… But we got some sort of weird double sided half club half sword that fires bugs and has a polevault attack. That's really crazy and creative, but at the same time, kind of unsatisfying to see them go off the rails before we've even seen half the shit we should have.

Like Gunhammers! Long Swords evolved out from existing Greatswords, and Gunlances were originally just oddly styled lances. Bowguns split into different classes of weapon. We even got a classic bow and arrow type weapon…

But not staves or polearms. What the hell, Capcom?

 No.90

I've always wanted the Gunhammer to become it's own weapon since I saw RWBY
I don't know enough about the Insect Glaives mechanics since I'm a hands on learner.
How do you think a Gunhammer would play out? Would it be a reskin of the the Hammer with Gunlance abilities or make it more unique? If I designed it I'd make it a lot less maneuvreable but less reliant on stamina usage and more on how many bullets?/canisters?/vials? you have left in the chamber to depend on which moves/ how long a combo you can pull off.
Sorry I don't know how to link replies, is it just >>89 ?

If you click on the number of the post, it adds a quote backlink to your post. Top line of the post, far right "No.##"
You can also type it in manually, which is easy for a board with this few posts.

As for the Gunhammer, I imagine you could design it similar to the Gunlance.

Lowered damage in exchange for secondary effects and powerful burst damage.

It could have the ability to explode shells on impact for additional KO damage or maybe an explosion-aided swing that's faster and quicker unsheath swing.

Could even have a Wyvern Fire type attack where you unload all your shells at once in one huge burst.

Something that switches out the slow, plodding charge attacks for smaller bursts of high damage with a need to reload and cool down to balance things out.

 No.94

Thank you for the advice

Now then, I really like the idea of it being a hit and run weapon better than my previous idea of it being slow and unweildy.

I also like the idea of cooldown time. Maybe instead of using shells it could use gas chambers which once used refill on their own over time instead of having to physically reload it as I can't imagine a good reload animation for a Hammer and it would also set it apart from Gunlances

The base damage of the hammer would be far less than a normal Hammer so it would need to utilise the gas chambers in the head of the Hammer to do the most damage but after they were used up the user would have to retreat and wait for the chambers to refill one by one for them to do maximum damage which would push them towards making hit and run tactics

The Gunhammers could have different shot types like Gunlances but they could have Normal, Power, Elemental and Exhaustion (since Hammers usually focus on KOing) rather than the Long and Wide shots of the Gunlance since if the shots are exploding on impact (as I presume you mean) they would be useless

I think this would make a balanced and original weapon (though if anything seems unbalanced say something!)

Now if only Capcom could see this

 No.97

Just a quick addition
The special move (since all weapons that rely on burst damage seem to have a special move or ability to help them utilise it) could be to slam the barrel/head of the hammer onto the ground and using the recoil of the blast to send the user straight up into the air to do a midair smash attack or to mount the monster.

If the original slam hits the monster it does damage as well as sending the user into the air.

>>87
Since mounting monsters is a new feature and can only be utilised on the fly by Insect Glaives currently it would make sense to want to add more weapons that can mount such as this Gunhammer idea or a new polearm (since polearms have often been used as pole vaults as well)

 No.104

I've always bitched to my friends that there was never a fist/gauntlet type weapon.

I mean, the tonfas in frontier are step in the right direction, I guess; But not what i'm looking for. I want to punch things, dammit.

Also Whips, having them teased in the manga just kind of poured salt in the wound.

Some kind of new ranged weapons, dual handbowguns (crossbows), would be amazing. Shorter range, faster firing rate, probably would work like bows with innate elements/ailments and coatings.

 No.121

>>104
I'm assuming the gauntlets would do impact damage

Would you make them do afast flurry of impact damage to rack up quick KO damage on the monster or slow but powerful and precise strikes and uppercuts like a lance but with strong KO in order to break specific parts but without the shield?

 No.122

>Since mounting monsters is a new feature and can only be utilised on the fly by Insect Glaives currently

Actually, you can jump on demand if you're in the middle of a lance charge. It's cool.

Yep, hold forward + RXA to go into a charge (or use the touchscreen/start button depending on your settings) then use Up + B to jump on demand. You can do a thrust during the hop to reliably mount.

Unrelated, but you can also use Down + X during a charge to stop in place and do a powerful swing behind you if you overshoot your target.

I would like to see a spear an sheild.

It's like a light lance, exept you can throw your spear.

Move around faster than a lance, you don't get Infinite spears, very limited like 5-25 depending on weapon but some are heavy and light, so the heavier the more damage they do but less range they have. Spears can hit the monster and fall or stick to do additional damage. But they can break so you can't pick them up anymore and lose that spear.

Obviously you can not throw you last spear.
Depending on the spear element also effect like fire does Fire damage and freezing freezes it. I think the spear should be a very elemental weapon.
But since the its meant to be a light weapon you can move around much quicker than your lance guy but you loose that lance sheild, it's better than SNS but tied with CB non red phils. Heavier spears will do more elemental damage but less range to throw and carry less.

 No.567

>>481
I think that throwing the spear should do more damage than a usual stab so it gives you some burst damage.

Maybe the spears could go through monsters and do damage for every part of the monster you hit racking up massive elemental damage giving the potential to give the highest level of burst damage in the game (Plus it would absolutely rip though plesioth while also being far from its hipchecks.

I always hear people suggesting whips in threads on /v/ but I didn't really see it working as I couldn't think of a way to sheathe the whip without it being clunky but I just had an idea.

What if we had a whip and shield? Bare with me, okay? What if the whip was actually a grappling hook is connected to the shield? Think of a yo-yo with the yo-yo part being the shield and the string being a chain with a hook on the end.

To attack you use A to do a right to left swing and pressing A again swings it left to right. Pressing X slings the hook straight forward to hit and attach to monsters, pressing X again brings the hook straight back and pressing A then send you into a spinning swing attack similar to the hammer's. Pressing X and A together will do and upswing that grabs any monster in its path.

After you've grabbed a monster you can hit R to rapidly pull yourself towards the monster gaining huge distance or if they're a small monster pull them towards you. Remember that XA upswing I told you about? If you use that on a monster flying out of the area and press R to pull yourself to it you will fly out of the area with the monster to wherever it is going. Hitting R when you aren't latched on to a monster it brings the whip back and puts up your shield which is about as strong as a charge blade shield.

Depending on which Hook and shield you choose you would get different effects like how different Gunlances have different shot types. In this case he hook can either be a slicing or impact damage dealing hook. So something like a Plesioth hook might have an anchor as a hook which would therefore do impact damage or you could have a Nargacuga hook which has a kunai for a hook which would do slicing damage. Also the range would change depending on the Hook and Shield you were using.

sharpening it would just be sharpening the hood against the edge of the shield. Would anyone use this weapon if they had the chance? I know a lot of people want whips, I'm kind of just thinking of ways that weapon could work in game.

I'd like to see a new ranged weapon similar to a flamethrower
You know when the congalala eats a mushroom and does its breath attack based on the mushroom it ate? Like that
instead of shells or arrows you would need gas canisters. you could have canisters for fire, poison, sleep, dragon, etc. your base attack (no ammo needed) might be an air blast or an acidic mist idk, something that does a bit of damage. maybe the special attack would be to mix two or more kinds of gasses together to apply both of their effects together or cause an explosive reaction. it wouldn't do much damage if you just tap the firing button but if you hold it down it would do continuous damage

HBGs and LBG have interchangeable parts that they can switch in and out. What if it had interchangeable parts in the form of nozzles? Attaching a wide nozzle would make the spray much wider so that it encompassed a much larger area when shot, a long nozzle would make the spray go further.

All ranged weapons have the ability to do cutting damage (LBG and HBG through slicing shots and Bows though their melee attack) so maybe you could do a short melee attack to do cutting damage.

I don't really know if this weapon would necessarily need a special move as being able to do continuous elemental damage on a monster is already amazing plus being able to inflict status ailments on monsters after a few seconds of continuous spray is just incredible.

Instead of the long barrel or silencer that light bow guns have you could have differnet nozzels like you suggested. Maybe range and damage could have an inverse relationship; long wide low damage cone or short compact low damage spray

i also agree, a special attack might make it overpowered, but what if its special attack is allowing you to be launched into the air? point the thing down, release a blast of whatever gas you're using, and get a jump boost while also doing AoE damage

How about this. Batcannon which has a halfswitch of style(half of a switch because full switch would be too redundant) into hbg. Has 3 stationary type of charges normal-weak bat hit(charge cancel hit)/strong hit(frontier has what I imagine on hammers moveset if I remember correctly)/360 homerun hit. Maybe make those charge hits the only way to make it shoot and aim at different angles or even to make it just shoot at all. Or you can aim with it like hbg, but it takes stamina and takes time to make it shoot so charge attack to cannon shot combo would require skill and precise timing, but will pay off in higher damage output. Like gunlance it could have different type of shots small(impact, almost no drop off)/big(impact, higher drop off)/gas(either gunlance like or element\status dmg over time)/cut(maybe even make melee attacks do cutting damage too).

For model designers the solution could be remodeling some wide type of gunlances and 2 other types remade into sawn-off versions.
