From what I'm getting by reading both medium.com things, Next was removed as a choice for a software upgrade for 8chan after Jim, Hotwheels, and Josh had a disagreement on what software license to use when talking over a cup of coffee. HW and Josh wanted AGPL, which is an open-source license, whereas Jim wanted the Next software to be closed-source. Passive-agressiveness happened, Josh started to go insane, and then everyone started noticing how shit of a job Josh was doing with everything. Cut to last month (January 2016), and Josh is finally let go and he got extremely butthurt about it because, according to Hotwheels, Josh has some sort of mental illness that makes him project emotions onto other people and that everyone is out to get him and/or feed him to Jim's pigs at Jim's pig farm. According to Josh however, Hotwheels and Jim are trying to steal "his" code and use it with a closed-source license, which he thinks is bad and wrong badong.

The (8chan) community in all of this just wanted a site that looked and felt like 8chan, but worked better than the current version that ran on a duct-tape and twine ball of mess that is a fork of vichan. They kept on telling Josh that "this site (infinitydev.org) looks like shit", or that barely any features were present, and the ones that were often times broke. Everyone noticed that Josh kept on saying "no fuck you, my ideas are better and i can do no wrong with code" (when in reality his code was fucking shit and didn't even meet the minimum requirements for 8chan to run properly (100 requests a second per sever, when Josh only managed to get Next up to around 30 if I recall correctly)). Everyone accused Josh of hugboxing on his >>>/next/ boards, both on 8chan and on the infinity dev site, and naturally he didn't listen.

Who's fault it is on why Next failed, and who's trying to steal what code written by whom, I have no idea. All I do know is that Josh fucked up a lot and blew a $3,200 USD a month job because he has zero negotiation skills, and is now paranoid that everyone is out to get him. Hotwheels admitted that while Josh fucked up, so did he, and that he should have been more involved with both the community and with Next from the beginning, but he wasn't.

Something I've noticed lately, and in the past, is that people think they can be the person that writes the next Citizen Kane of CYOAs.

The thing is, a lot (probably 90% pure ass-pulling here though) of them are mediocre at best, or downright awful at worst, and a lot tend to fizzle and die out after a few weeks.

Content is nice but if you want to try writefagging, try writing a simple one-off short story (try to shoot for 10k words or less) on your favorite monstergirl, and then post a pastebin link to it in the current writefag thread (>>90236) asking what you need to do to improve your writing, before clogging up the board with yet another half-baked, half-assed CYOA that gets dropped either by you (the OP) or the readers after half a month.

Some anon on here writes one of the most well-recieved CYOAs on this board, and then everyone wants to be that next anon that makes the next 10/10 story.

I'm not saying don't do a CYOA. Instead, I'm saying you should gain some experience in generic writing where you can control the story before you jump into the wide world of autistic shitposting that is CYOA. In a CYOA, you don't control the story, the readers do. You just describe it, the readers chose what happens. The readers decide that ayyliens come to errf and abduct all the humans, you describe how that happens. You can't control the direction in which a CYOA goes unless you want to railraod. And if you're going to railroad a story, then why are you running a CYOA instead of writing a regular story?

Controlling the amount of CYOAs that can be up at one time would be difficult, if not impossible, since there would have to be a rule on how many can be run at once (which would make people complain regardless of what the upper limit is), but also what constitutes a "running" CYOA. That is to say, what constitutes a CYOA that is actively being updated or not, and how long does a CYOA have to be "outdated", so to speak, before it's counted as not being run. Then you'd have to take into account if a CYOA passes that "not running" threshold, and then a few days later the OP comes back and updates the story again.

Basically what I'm saying here in this blogpost is that holy shit we have way too many CYOAs going on at once. This happens cyclically though. It seems like every three to four months or so there's a huge influx of about a dozen or so CYOAs, and only one or two of those actually last more than a month.

Almost, 80% done. It's certainly taken longer than I expected and I am at fault for that, having severely underestimated how challenging it would to get 5 different people to read 39 stories.

Yeah, there's always been a "rift". We get a handful of users every now and then who break the rules (Usually posting gore), get banned, and go form their own MG wikis.

Yeah, that's an off shoot but was formed under different circumstances. During the early days of the Wiki, there was no real structure/method for people to RP. To fulfill that role, I initially decided to create and offshoot RP wiki but ended up scrapping it, thinking that fracturing the community was a bad idea. One of our users decided to create Fanon and host MG RP there.

We're on good terms and have no beef with them but have adopted an "Out of Sight, Out of Mind" policy since much of the content there would cause friction with KC.

So, the artwork is weird. Wiki has a 'no NSFW' policy but their moderators aren't very good at catching that stuff. If you upload genitalia, there's a 50% chance it'll stay up without any takedowns. I always upload lewds first then replace with censored versions if they get taken down. There is no actual punishment for uploadings NSFW so it's risk free.

As for the amount of art, I maintain an image archive of every MGE fanart I come across. I'd say 75% of it is not on the Wiki but one day, I intend to sit down, upload everything, and sort it to pages. That should add a couple hundred pics.

Anyone that wants to complain about that stuff can blow me and KC. I know the anti-gore/anti-monster rule riled a lot of people up but it was the only condition we had to meet to formally align ourselves with KC's camp. We've gotten a lot more involved with other MGE communities as a result. so I think it was a worthwhile sacrifice.

I've told my staff this before but don't think I've ever mentioned it publicly: The Wiki's primary purpose is to deliver MGE content.

If, for whatever reason, the user base, article comments, the LiveChat, or the forums compromise this, I have no problem disabling those features to protect content.

If things really do take a turn for the worst and the wiki is threatened, we don't have any problems with purging everything that isn't directly related to published MGE content (i.e. Chat, forums, comments, RP, fanfiction, fanart, etc).

I used the same method you listed there, though I used 'View Page Info' instead, and went to Media menu, clicked on the image address and it'll show up in media preview. It worked for me in Pale Moon.

There was an IP Leak of sorts. Hotwheels was trying to fix it, and instead he fucked up the catpcha system.

What I did to get around it (in Firefox) was:

and you now have the captcha image

You have to be specific in my opinion, because the fanbase you are pandering to has a non uniform version of what "vanilla" is so your pretty much on your own there. And as a matter-of-factly often spit on what is vanilla and make dumb insults out of it instead of wanting to live with it, so your going to have to modify that behavior out of them.
