>Your wife stayed home today, she wasn't feeling well. She had a fever and had trouble keeping her balance. You decided to stay home from work as well, you never used your sick days, so no one at home complained. You waited on her hand and foot to make sure she got better as soon as possible.
>You brought a bowl of homemade chicken noodle soup to her bedside, and carefully fed her spoonfuls, making sure not to spill anything. Setting the bowl down, you nervously bring a hand to her head to check her temperature. She doesn't seem upset, thankfully, but her head is burning hot.
>"H-honey… could you stroke my hair?" She looks at you, willing herself to smile through the pain.
>"S-sure, anything for you sweetheart." The nagging in the back of your head is starting to give you a headache as you gently run your fingers through her hair.
>She smiles and hums contently before her face twists, her expression changed to one of immense sorrow. "Honey… I'm sorry."
>Your head is pounding from that nagging feeling, "W-whats wrong? You have no reason to be sorry, you're the one sick, I probably gave you food poisoning, I know how terrible my cooking is, I probably undercooked-"
>"HONEY STOP!" She yells, shocking you. She remains silent, before sniffling, "I'm sorry… for everything." She takes a deep breath and begins sobbing, "You deserve better than me… You've done nothing but love and care for me all these years. And how do I repay you!? By treating you like garbage, belittling you, dragging you down, stagnating your career to feed my own sick sense of pride…"
>Your head feels like it's going to split open, you're trying to make sense of everything, but your mind is rejecting it, it CAN'T understand. "H-honey, no it's not your fault, it's m-"
>"IT'S ALL MY FAULT! You married me! Gross frumpy me! I was so afraid of losing you to someone prettier, I put you down! I wanted you to feel like you couldn't do better so you wouldn't leave me! But even after all that, you stuck by me, you stayed with me, you still loved me…"
>The feeling is gone. Everything makes sense now. All these years your fooled yourself into thinking it was your fault. But it wasn't. It was her. Why did she treat you this way. WHY!? YOU DID EVERYTHING FOR HER!!!! You feel disgusted by your wife, but most of all you feel disgusted by yourself. You look in the mirror, and see a strong confident man, that could do anything he set his mind to. But your own shattered ego kept you from seeing that, and kept you from flying as high as you could.
>"You're right. I did deserve better. I'm just now seeing that… I can't believe I stuck with you for this long. You were always a petty angry woman." You glare at her, "I never cared about how you looked, I was just glad someone care about me. I never thought I deserved it, and I let myself fool myself into thinking that all this time.
>"AUGH!!!" Your wife screams in pain, you feel little pity for her… but you're not going to leave her. You made a vow on your wedding day that you would stick by her, and just because she didn't take them seriously didn't mean you were.
>"I'm here for you… just tell me what's wro-" You're cut off by an ear splitting, sickening cracking of bones
>Your wife yells at the top of your lungs, you throw the blanket off her to see what's wrong as you see her legs have changed into furry hooves. What? Your wife groans and grabs at her head, trying to massage away at her temples, "My head feels like it's cracking open… AAGH!" curved horns violently jut from her skull her skin tearing and a small smear of blood coating the white bone as it grows in.
>"Cindy, what's going on!?" You shout.
>"I-I don't know! P-please stay with me… I'm scared!"
>Her words sting, you know she wouldn't have done the same for you… you struggle not to leave, it would be easy to leave. But you stay, holding her hand whether she liked it or not.
>She grits her teeth as he ears stretch and elongate into white fuzzy floppy things, she almost looks like a cow… like one of those Mamono? With another groan, a tuft tipped tail slithers out from underneath her, and wraps around your waist.
>"Y-you're still here… t-thank you." She looks at you with tears in her eyes. She grits her teeth again, her homely face crackling, slowly changing into something more feminine, more soft and inviting. Her face changed into something that naturally looked sweet and caring.
