Alright, ignoring how apparently super-awesome and divinely inspired the LDS religion makes him out to be, what do you honestly think about Joseph Smith?

I've spoken with my father, who unlike me is still with the church, about him. He and I both agree he wasn't too hot as a leader or an activist (see the shit he pulled in Nauvoo, I believe that was where he ordered for the destruction of a printing press that criticized him and his followers).

However I do find his story rather fascinating in the sense that he started a new religion and convinced enough people to join it to start a cultural movement still active today in spite of its questionable roots. Then again, the whole point of religion is ignoring reason and logic because faith amirite?

I remember about a year ago some Mormons knocked on my door. They brought like a 5 year old little kid with them so I couldn't be a total asshole to them without feeling bad. Shoddy tactics if you ask me.


Then about 3 weeks ago I get this phone call from my neighbor telling me he just had some door-to-door Mormons over and that they were heading my way, so naturally I stripped down to my socks and tried to invite them in while wiggling my junk in their face, watching the woman trying to hide her freak-out was hilarious, it was a couple in their 50's or some shit.


Why do they go door-to-door anyway? I've never had Muslims or Jews pull that stuff. Is it part of your religion or something?

The main rationale behind all the missionary work is so that as many people as possible can hear what we believe to be the truth. Many people don't have access to the internet and shit and so door to door is the most effective way in a lot of other poorer countries. Although US missionaries are starting to be phased out in favor of internet chat missionaries.

The worship of The father son and holey spirit being separate entities was common in the early church and it wasn't until political forces moved to force the church into a bound set of beliefs by the political rulers that the nicene creed was formed. Unless your are catholic I have a hard time accepting your assertion that this is a divine document.
