About 10 years ago a group of us chantards got together in IRC and started discussing our best childhood memories of tv shows and how they influenced us to strive to aim higher. We discussed at great lengths shows like Mister Rogers Neighborhood and how for many of us that grew up in adverse and troubling childhood, people like Mr. Rogers were helping us feel like we weren't worthless, that we were special, and that our thoughts, discoveries, curiosity, and interests were important and valuable things, not just an annoying trait of being younger than most of those around us. We discussed at great lengths how shows like Reading Rainbow introduced us to documentaries of sorts on topics that we thought were interesting, but on a level that we could easily grasp, how they helped drive us to maintain an interest in science and technology for many years until we were able to pursue those interests on our own and become the people we are today. What we realized collectively was that while most of us may be chantards and deemed losers by mainstream society, our more lofty pursuits and interests were fostered by such media.

But then something very depressing hit us, one user mentioned that while she was happily married, she deeply regretted that when she would have kids, they would never get a chance to experience the same wonderful content that we did, and if they did, it would mostly be irrelevant to their generation. I think a lot of us felt a twinge of depression as that sunk in, as those of us who are aware of the current state of childrens' education know that the crap being produced today in the name of educational content is extremely bad. We understood that the educational content producers today aren't interested in entertaining kids while slipping nuggets of scientific logic and information, but were being created by the sort of SJW progressives that we all hated, as well as people who didn't have a STEM background.

A few of us talked about how we wished there was content like this being created, how we wished we would have an influence over the creation of such content. Some of us were interested in trying to create a show but after quite a lot of brainstorming we realized this was a fruitless endeavor as the connections and financing to make a decent show were just not available to us. But from this conversation an interesting idea arose. The idea we had was to revive a show we all enjoyed and felt would benefit future generations Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

The rules
1. Anything goes right now.
I like loose moderation and think that the average chantard deserves more leeway than they give themselves credit for, they are adults, they know what would be worthwhile to post. I'll write rules as we need them.

The mods.

For now I will be the only mod, and I expect to keep it that way until we need more moderators. I will mod this board with an iron fist and take shit from nobody until there is a well planned system for a group to take executive control of things.

Good traffic and high PPH will come to you, but only if you post this message to 5 other dead boards to spread his reanimating magick.

Before you can have a script you must first have a general idea of where you want to go and what you want to cover, so that goes here.

A series of shots follow and the Bus begins receiving a complete overhaul. Tim arrives with a vehicle full of gizmo looking components and explains that he was trying to build his own magic school bus, but would rather his equipment went into retrofitting the Bus. Bus is seen almost completely disassembled and it's clear that the gizmo's being removed are antiques in horrible repair, with discernible pieces such as vacuum tubes being visible to help drive home how badly outdated Bus actually was. After several scenes showing their work being completed, its shown that Bus is back and much better than it was before, demonstrating that while it looks nearly the same, it actually is in an amazing state and is capable of any adventure it might find itself on.

After this the characters part ways, but not before Frizzle tells DA to pick her and Bus up for class on Monday so she can take DA along and show her the ropes of a field trip.

When the day rolls around, DA shows up at Frizzle's house. Once we are inside Frizzle's house Frizzles tells DA that she is ready to go and looks over at her three lizards, asking Liz if she wants her offspring to come along on a field trip, Liz nods and the younger and smaller lizard jumps onto DA's shoulder in a scene that helps signify that DA is starting down a path of being a much younger version of Frizzle.

The episode ends on this note and consists of seeing DA stall the bus and admitting that she cant drive a stick shift. Frizzle makes a sarcastic remark about how DA has a lot to learn, and the episode fades out.
Even if no new episodes are made after this, we still create closure through this episode.

Episode 2 will be the first run of the actual format but with a few plot elements from the prequel that must be carried over for continuity's sake. DA's class is not thrilled about a field trip, and this will be the only episode where Frizzle goes along in a copilot role as an instructor that can bail DA out if things go wrong.

 No.16

After this episode Frizzle may be able to appear as needed in the role of a chaperone, but it is clear to the viewer that DA is going to do a fine job filling Frizzle's shoes, and while she is extremely inexperienced, she will be able to handle herself. Other than these elements, the show will be free to behave in a modular format with each episode being a self contained story.

Last night saw the Arnold puppet go from being a line drawing to a rigged puppet. This image has placeholder hands and mouth, and is 2/3 of the final width since it's easier to chop legs and stuff when they are string bean.

Last night I finished a front of Carlos that is now set for rigging. The reshaped body will also go into fixing Arnold since his body looks a shit.

I'm currently modeling the bus in illustrator and have been hitting a multitude of small problems with getting things like color and shape right. Here are the reference images I am using, perhaps someone else could contribute useful bits of stuff they come across that would help the project.

The bus from the show doesn’t seem to exactly match any known bus from the real world, but seems to be modeled with several basic features of 80s and 70s design styles. The bus has a much more aerodynamic look than it's contemporaries with its curved lines at the back and smooth fenders on the front. This would place the bus in the 70s at least since after the 1973 oil crisis there was a flurry of moving towards more fuel efficient vehicles that were more streamlined. The grill of the bus is not exactly typical of any bus I've seen but does have a striking resemblance to the International trucks in that it has horizontal intake fins and is roughly oval shaped.

We are in luck as well because most modern busses that aren't flatnose have gone back to the sharply sloped engine bay and low fenders in order to give the driver a better view of kids that might be in front of the bus. Quite a few of the current models of busses right now have the same basic profile as the bus from the show, just large modern lights and differently shaped noses.

Last night saw us mostly finish the 1/3 view of the bus.

We made the eyes/headlights a separate set of layers for animation and left off the turn indicators for now. .AI file was uploaded to Thumper's deviantart

Conceptual front was completed before we had a small meeting that determined that screenshots from the show had a totally different nose shape. The artist was thinking that the nose of the bus was curved like an old VW Beetle and thus will require a complete rework. The angles we found while working the 1/3 will go a long ways towards getting the front view looking correct. We are also beginning to move towards a final color palette for the bus but some of us want lighter hues

Before we go anywhere with actually writing a script the best way to get started is through brainstorming. The problem is that we all live around the world on the internet and our collective thoughts are much more difficult to convey in text form than it would be for everyone to sit in a room and blurt stuff out as it comes to mind.

Because of this, perhaps it would be best if we started with mapping out our collective thoughts and let the best ideas float to the top. We can literally turn the gobs of ideas into a picture and upload it.
