vaporwave has been dead for eons
9206bd No.24788
>>24714>I can't stand the 80's funkpop revival vaporwave.Funkpop revival isn't vaporwave. Although I just say it's "Slowed down 80's music with effects" so as not to sound like a Hipster, one thing I think about with vaporwave is this reoccurring bad thought I have about what I term the "Infinite Virtual Mall".
Its a mall, neon signs and shops everywhere, and it's always busy. People buy clothes, go to the food court, and buy stuff
and that's all they do.
The maps of the mall has exits on it, but when you go there it is more stores.
Vaporwave is what you hear, the music is slow enough to dull your senses, it feels like fucking concrete weighing you down, but it is upbeat enough that your mind is forced to trot along at a slow pace.
You notice that nobody ever leaves or asks about exits, they go to the stores, buy new clothes, eat at the food court. That same group of girls does the same thing in a loop for what you could say days, but when you look out the few skylights you can find its always dusk.
You loose track of time, and whoever you talk to looks at you like you're crazy, and whenever you show them evidence they just forget.
That is vaporwave for me.
Hell inside a Mall.
It brings back the unnerving feelings of going to Latham Circle Mall for me like 2-3 years ago, the place was always dirty, but now only the JC Pennys and the Movie theater keep the building open. It's abandoned.

You know what it is but something is off but that's the enjoyment of it.

>>23533The thing I love about vaporwave is that it's supposed to be all inclusive… Imagery, music, titles, etc. It's meant to be a package deal, it's meant to put you in a certain mindset.
Sure lots of it is shitty, and basically just slowed down jams, but the good stuff is really good. (re)appropriation can be good. Everything is derivative. And while, yes, dilution unfortunately does happen, I truly appreciate 'sinking' into a great vapor wave production. Honestly, other genres could learn a lot from this movement.

Hello /mu/wavers!
Would you guys consider this vaporwave?
http://tinyurl.com/pashdgyMy previous ghost project was サイバー '98 (preferably pronounced Saibā '98)
But I upgraded my alias.
creating the idea that the servers/computers for S'98 overheated leading to malfunctioning issues and had to be upgraded with a si$ter hardware using some components from S '98. all to create computer generated music.
infact, I had a whole story for this album.
http://tinyurl.com/k5xwok9when it comes to its track titles.
but I kept it to myself for listeners to interpret the Ai story. now, ~achlys~ wants to be her own soul, and tracks suffer with glitches and emotions by S'98. I know it's silly. lol
In Real Life: I did have technical issues. I use mostly an SSD but it's only 128GB. & only 119 GB can be used, so I tend to transfer to am ext. HD which suffered an impact. luckily I still have some field recordings, samples, saved presets and some tracks left for this project. making digital forest II vaporware. lol
;)

Has any of you seen this? Basically a former employee of K-Mart named Mark Davis collected the music tapes that were played at the branch he worked in from 1989 to 1992, afterwards the music that the stores played came directly from satellite so there were no more tapes to collect.
The tapes from 1989 to 1990 contained Muzak, while the tapes from 1991 to 1992 contained mainstream music. The tapes were released monthly at first but later got released weekly, all of them have store commercials between songs.
There's a special tape that was played only on March 1st 1992 and contained oldies music, this tape was made to commemorate the 30th anniversary of K-Mart, definitely worth a listen.
Mark uploaded all the tapes in digital form (320Kbps MP3s) here:
https://archive.org/details/attentionkmartshoppers?sort=-date
Also a fellow anon from >>>/v/6462556 uploaded a compressed archive file with all the tapes (8.1 GBs) to:

I'm not that crazy about vaperwave myself but since we're on the topic of found shit I might as well post this:
I recorded this last year off of some local tv station that often airs their backlog of stuff somewhat at random, I cannot find any info on this band/group whatsoever. the tv station airs at least three of them, I have recorded two of them, the other recorded one was sorta techno-ish and wasn't as good as the other ones (it had a somewhat amusing video though), the one I haven't yet recorded was fucking awesome though.
It seems like the name of the group (or possible music production company?) is called "Light Years" and the names of the said songs are:
"Discovering the Misty Planets" (the one in posted webm)
"Burst of Energy" (the other recorded one)
"Super Nova" (the one that I have yet to record)
I tried to search them but I was not able to find shit except for the "MKM Multytask" stuff some shitty website database sites:
https://archive.is/Dx7uT
https://archive.is/ablUK
It showed "MKM Multytask Inc." as the site owner company for "tvonnet.com" I'm guessing they might have owned tvonnet.com or might have at some point? (i'm not too sure about it since it's owned now by some domain squatter), but searching for the company name brought up nothing aside from those sites, they also showed a business address but I didn't really find any active, or past business that exist that I think would be related to that so far.
So I looked at the site on wayback machine.
https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://Tvonnet.com
it looked like it's some sorta company that does online streaming? (with a shitty site with a bunch of ads)
were they some company that did music production that also later on did online stream? or was MKM Multytask some sorta video/media distributor in the past that happened to have "Light Years" as a client?
That's pretty much it, dig further if you want, I'm stumped from here. and kinda lazy

I made the mistake of listening to Floral Shoppe as my first album in the genre, and compared to that, just about everything that I've listened to so far on this chart is pretty…underwhelming. I liked the smooth but also kind of eerie atmosphere of Floral Shoppe, the (usually) creative use of the samples, and the more ambient bits still managed to keep my attention. Personally, I find it akin to the aesthetic of F Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby" - it combines two feelings, (1) the nostalgia and enjoyment of easy times and material comforts, and (2) the underlying feeling that it's all just a lie, that it's not meant to be. And it's the juxtaposition of these themes that creates the art.
Vaporwave - the ultimate dream from which one cannot awake.

Because Vaporwave is not just mere music, it's an aesthetic…
Let's travel back in time 20-30 years.
You wake up early in the morning to the sound of an old alarm clock. You quickly get dressed for school/college, and before you leave you open the window and take a quick look, you see giant billboards advertising several unrelated things all over the street.
A new fizzy drink for the youth that you tried before, it tasted awful. A trip plan to Hawaii, on sale at a reduced price offered by a popular travel agency, the image of the palm trees against the sunset makes you wish you were there. And a cosmetic product with colorful packaging, you admire the beauty of the female models showcasing the product…

You run downstairs to catch the bus, you greet the driver and find your seat. He turns on the radio just in time for the morning broadcast to start; some gleeful Muzak starts playing and gets interrupted by a reporter, several times. The reporter is talking about some news that happened yesterday while taking listeners' calls, you can barely understand what they're saying because the radio signals are received poorly by the moving bus, resulting in a terrible sound quality. The talking stops after a short while and an intermission starts, you can tell because of the upbeat sounds and the fast, distorted talking that takes place. You recognize one of the commercials, it's for that new fizzy drink you tried, a familiar jingle is sung by a group of teenagers in a spontaneous voice backed by a catchy tune. By this point you realize you heard this commercial almost a million times already, and now it's stuck in your head, unconsciously getting played over and over as you slowly fall asleep…

You arrive and go up the stairs to your class room, it turns out there's a test today so you sit and await the paper. Suddenly you hear some music playing down in the playground to the voice of some students from a younger class, talking, laughing, and singing-along. Sounds like a pop track that got released earlier this year, you can't really tell which one is it over the voices and the squeaking from the cheap cassette it seems to be played on. You attempt to ignore it and focus on your test but it still sneaks into your ears.

On your way home you pass by the local mall to run a shopping errand. You enter to the sight of numerous shoppers scattered all around, you maneuver your way through the crowd and between the set up panels showcasing expensive luxury products, it's almost nauseating.
The calm music playing through the store speakers soothes your nerves as you browse racks upon racks of merchandise, trying to find only the few items that you need. Eventually you gather everything you stacked in your basket and head for the checkout queue, you are now forced to wait for a good 10 minutes, maybe 15, who knows. Your mind wanders off to the music as the time passes by…

After a long day you return home, no one's there. You kick off your shoes and turn on the television. You switch to your favorite channel, but it's showing nothing but snow (TV static). Shoot, the dish must have gotten screwed again. In frustration you flip between the channels, all of them have the same fate aside from a handful, and even those are in a pretty bad state.
You stop by a family channel, there's a weather report being broadcast, it shouldn't take long. The slightly discolored display mixed with the shaky screen annoys you, but eventually the report is over and the anticipation for what's next distracts you from the eye sore on the screen.
You see a short trailer for a sci-fi movie that is going to be aired momentarily, you get excited by the poorly rendered computer graphics and the shiny costume worn by the actors, but the excitement stops when you realize the film will be aired on the sister channel, which is currently just snow.

You turn off the television and head to your room, you turn on your beige desktop to write, or more appropriately "type", a homework assignment. An early version of Windows boots up and displays a loading bar, the screen gets stuck on it for a while, before a friendly chime plays and you see the system fully loaded. You execute a word processing program and start typing, but after a few paragraphs the system hangs, displaying an icomprehensible error inside a tiny grey box. Your computer becomes unresponsive to your clicks and keystrokes, so you reset it and wait while it reboots. You head to the stereo system to listen to a radio station that you tuned into with considerable difficulty, you find some smooth jazz music playing in a late night block. As the music plays you gaze into the cityscape from your window, decorated with neon lights and electric signs that blur your vision, and fantasize about the upcoming vacation when you might leave the city for a while…

In retrospect, what was the names of the products advertised to you throughout the day, or the tracks that were played in visited places, or the reporters on TV and radio? You don't remember, because they didn't matter.
What you DO remember is the feeling you got when being exposed to them, all the unique aesthetics that represented the place and time you were in got stored in your memory, whether you intended for that to happen or not.
Then it all comes back, sounds and imagery that you seem to have been exposed to before, being presented in the same state in which you remember them; faded and mellow… Hazy discolored video clips from an old TV show, blurred photographs taken by an outdated camera, deteriorated music from a worn out cassette, that one small part in a song that you remember being repeated over and over, primitive 3D graphics on analog displays, people dressed in a certain way looking almost the same…etc.
This is what vaporwave mainly is; media that greatly appeals to your subconscious, recreating a vivid familiar image, triggering a sense of (faux) nostalgia and yearning for a past, simpler time.

so what's the deal with Hardvapor?
as far as I can tell in my totally exhaustive survey of two releases, it's ambient/glitchy hardstyle, or kind of echoey industrial + gabber. I do not hear the vapor.
"Glitch Hop", "Virtual Dream" and "Coding @ Dawn" are pretty decent ambient/downtempo/whatever but they seem to be more about a t m o s p h e r e than a e s t h e t i c.
and I could see listening to The Subhumanizer - Transform, but not in a vapor mood.

I hate 8chan too, mostly because it's full of edgy fucks who hate Jews, Muslims, Blacks, Mexicans; and most people here are from Reddit, another site I hate.
But since you guys like vaporwave, you are my vaporbros. So pick an album from the vaporwave ultra edition chart and I will post the FLAC. Remember to pledge allegiance and say "fuck Trump and 8chan". This is not a joke.

Are you adding stuff to the mega folder? If you are in charge of it by some coincidence can you truncate some of the folder names so that they extract correctly and consider making the encoding latin. I went through considerable trouble renaming them so that db's don't choke on them.

>>63634
Yes I'm in charge of the Mega folder and I still add to it every now and then.
>truncate some of the folder names so that they extract correctly
What problem are you having exactly? WinRar gave me no errors during the archiving process. I'm using Windows 7 without any language packs or anything of that nature and the file/folder names display just fine.
Other people have downloaded vw albums from my Mega folder before and none of them had any complaints, so the possibility of Mega being at fault here is ruled out, it must be something on your end…
Are you using loonix? or Windows 95?
>consider making the encoding latin
I have no idea how to do that, sorry.
Also there is no album named "World Class" by DC, which one are you talking about?
2c1179 No.63652
I was using 7zip. Some were problematic on Windows 7 x64. It may have been the character length/limit within the deep nested folders themselves that led to a problem.
Another problem was that a lot of the coverart would not open up in photoshop when I went to save the cover png to Folder.jpg. It worked in paint of all places.
There were also some leftover .tmp files I'd run a * search and delete them.
World Class by Luxury Elite.
It may be blasphemy to change artist and track titles but a lot of the Asian characters posed a problem. I simplified them a bit. I'm still in the process of going through them all. I'm adding their quality to the end of the folder like FLAC or MP3 and it's bitrate to see what can be upgraded.
Aside from that great work btw. It has been a very fun project to sift and listen through.
ef3174 No.63683
>>63652
I'm x64 as well, and I always use 7-zip unless I'm making rar files. Are you using the 64bit version of 7-zip?
maybe you'll need to install that language pack after all
What program is that btw, in your screenshot?
>cover png
None of my music files have the embedded cover in PNG format. There may be a PNG copy of the album cover in some folders, but that comes with the downloaded album from BandCamp, nothing I can do about it.
>There were also some leftover .tmp files
The fuck? Where was that?
>Aside from that great work btw. It has been a very fun project to sift and listen through.
