So I think I want to get into black metal. However, the only metal, which aren't really black metal, I've listened to are maudin of the Well and Kayo Dot. Even then, the former is more prog-metal and the later is all over the place.

I guess if I could get some reccomendations on more avant-garde metal, that'd be a start.

I've recently listened to Cult of Fire's मृत्यु का तापसी अनुध्यान (yes that's Sanskrit). I like the way they blended Indian traditional music into epic black metal, a bit fresher than just the same black metal of the 90s over and over again.

I have re-emerged from the abyss, and I bring back glorious black metal.

To start off, I'll drop two underrated albums from 2014, the first of which has some jazz influence (mostly in the form of a sax that appears in some songs) and walks a bit to the avant-garde/depressive side of things. In other words, if occasional atonality and high-pitch screams trigger you, pass this one by.

Full album doesn't seem to exist on youtube, so hear is a highlight.

Can anyone tell me if the two newest Mayhem albums are worth the listen? I really appreciate early Mayhem. Live in Leipzig and De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas are two of my favorite albums of all time. I especially really love Attila's performance on De Mysteriis…

I really have no interest in listening to any of the albums with Messiah on them though. I really don't care for his voice, and he doesn't bring much to the band at all IMO. But since I enjoyed Attila on De Mysteriis so much, I thought I might enjoy Ordo Ad Chao and Esoteric Warfare, though I'm still a little skeptical. So can anyone tell me if those two albums are worth the listen?

I started listening to Tool, which I'm really digging. I had a few buddies show me some System of a Down, Five Finger Death Punch, Disturbed, and some older bands like Megadeth and Iron Maiden…but how would one classify these? And what are some good metal recommendations?

I think strongly of how deeply and strongly the last two smashing pumpkins albums are true black metal I mean the rocking gutair strains of adore… the true kavult of machina 2 ( also known as the secret pumpkins album of true hardcoreness).
