>How is Tical anything like Bobby Digital?
Tical is nothing like Bobby Digital, but is what Bobby Digital should've been.
What I mean is Rza's Bobby Digital alter ego always confused me.The name implies it is going to be more "electronic/futuristic" or some similar aesthetic, but instead Rza just sort of doubled-down on his crate-digging, sample based production, except he experimented with awkward rhythms and his sample selection was uninspired.
In retrospect, the kind of sound I would expect from an artist called "Bobby Digital" would sound more like what Rza produced for Tical than any other wu album. Sonic elements like synths, creative time-stretched drums, schizophrenic sample slicing and layering of more abstract sounds, etc. All these unique elements is probably why the album is so interesting when tripping.
I suppose I also still hold a grudge against Rza for disappointing me so much as Bobby Digital and I refuse to let it go.
