OP wasn't asking for black metal.

While Venom is from England, they were more considered early black & speed metal.

They're definitely considered to be part of the movement, although they only showed up toward the end of it.

I will say I've heard others add them to the genre it's just I've always considered them early black metal since their popularity was after the NWOBHM. But maybe I should reconsider.

Wow, looks like this thread needs some help..

The best thing about the NWOBHM is that there are so many bands you've never heard of. While plunging headlong into the 450+ bands will not yield a treasure trove of fantastic songs, there are some key songs and bands which your average Diamond Header knows nothing about.

For example, take Soldier with their great song Sheralee.

Here's another great one by Charger: Desperadoes!

This one is more "mainstream" NWOBHM (in that you might have heard of it), JAGUAR with Dutch Connection!

Everyone knows "Let it Loose" by Savage, but have you heard BERLIN?

Here's another relatively obscure one: We Stand to Fight by Virtue.

I might make it seem like the NWOBHM is full of dozens, if not hundreds of excellent songs.

It's not. Almost all "NWOBHM" bands sound have the same generic early 80s guy voice and the songs just sound like 70s hard rock rehashes. Most of them shouldn't have even recorded. It's very disappointing.

Metal in general is cheesy as fuck. But that's how we like it.
