I'd be somewhat okay with this if it wasn't for the character approval process. I don't want to spend a couple hours or more thinking up a decent character only to die or get hopelessly lost right away. I can handle permadeath and I can handle in-depth character RP with backstories and all, but both at once seems tiring.
It's a shame, because I like the combination in theory. You don't just respawn when you die, you're fucking dead, so you can't take a ton of risks, which means those who want to be sellswords and couriers have a place in the world. And then there's the karma requirement to play a magicker that adds value to the role.
The vocal part of the community seems pretty cool, from what I've read on the forums. They love IC drama and conflict, and they WANT exclusion based on social class/race/magick ability/clans/whatever so people will fight and make shit happen. I'm reading a thread as of this writing where someone complains that there needs to be more villainy, which is much like a thread I saw a few years back except now the haves are too complacent to give a fuck about some have-not stealing their things. But I don't know for sure, I've never played myself.
Shit, though, I might have to roll up some villains…
