How do I make an acapella out of a song?
Do I have to ask for it, or can I use EQ magic to make it happen?

Hey how's it going could you PLEASE test out the "tuned percussion" on Garageband (I think it's a xylophone) and explain why it sounds so absolutely terrible when remotely loud.

Other than the fact that it's from Garageband, seems to me that most Xylophones are a motherfucker to EQ and when you do chords or even single notes, shit crackles at the tail end and sounds disgusting, especially with Reverb.

I tried making a separate track for the reverb on GB and tried matrix verbs too but no luck. The lower notes I'm using sound shit and I can't EQ out the undertone harmonics without the main notes getting fucked up a tad.

Any advice would be dope thanks.

dc6db4 No.368

>>361
Try bouncing each note and work with samples, rather than a synth. the crackling sounds like perhaps a clipping issue, as phasing isnt characterised by cracking, but rather a swooshing movement type sound.

Are you trying to do a martin Garrix style lead?

Also reverb on a send works better, with a low mix

63964c No.353[Reply]

I am thinking about getting a Korg Electribe, do you guys think it is worth it? I played around with a Maschine Mikro for a bit, but I did not like it much. I figure this will be a much better deal since it is a complete package and it has the King Korg engine in it, so I can use it like a synth if I like.

I was planning on using it for a little bit of both. Writing stuff when I am out or just don't want to be at the computer or using it to make some quick basic sounds when I feel they would fit. However, I have been giving it some thought and I don't really want it as much as I did. I have been looking at the full sized Maschine (not the studio) and it looks way better than the Mikro, so I am considering getting that now. The only downside is it has to be chained to a computer. It also comes with a full version of Massive which is a huge plus.

17cbc0 No.358

>>357
Whats the difference between the two? more power for the Maschine?

63964c No.362

>>358

The Maschine has more power and flexibility than the Electribe. The only advantages to the Electribe is you don't need a computer, it has a built in synth engine and it can export directly to Ableton.

17cbc0 No.364

>>362
Well it really depends if you are always behind a computer or not. for me the maschine would be better, since i dont live perform.

63964c No.367

>>364

I gave it a lot of thought and I grabbed a used Maschine for $400. I think one of the big reasons I was considering an Electribe is because of the "cool" factor.

Hello /muprod/
This is my demo EP i put on prerelease. Which means I'm still open for somesuggestions about details, mastering etc. but most of the opinions and tips I will probably use in future projects, because I just want to release it (at last) mostly as it is.
It's a bit retro, late '90 or '00 styled disco house… I guess? I'm not an expert :B
Link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6KmVRnBmlTNODM2akswaFpHUFE/view?usp=sharing
I'm also searching for any websites, podcasts, fanpages and so the like which would be interested in this kind of music

Thanks for sharing your samples, I'll upload some samples asap. You should rarely use peak compression, I only use it in snares or synths that have some peaks, and sometimes with kicks because it can cause distortion and as the name says it just compresses the peaks not the average sound like RMS. I use the Rcompressor by waves is really good :-)

Here are the samples, I listen to Kaligula's Eccentric Party how I would arrange it

https://mega.co.nz/#!q48BgYiT!p3MtkDlEK4quayp0HYhv_NUk7gvclsD8_JuUKRU51rw

1fdc12 No.224

0:45 - I would add shakers and claps layered with the snare and also a digital syncopated hi hat
1:16 - I would left only the kick and snare playing with the bass and also add a chord progression
1:23 - I think this part shouldn't be repeated instead of this it should be playing what start at 1:30
!;30 - I would add vocal samples like glitch vocals
2:10 - Claps start playing
2:47 - Shakers and claps start playing again
And then it should be the outro all the instruments fade away
I do not think the song should be that 4 mins long

62fd00 No.334

I finally tried adding claps and shakers. I'm not really convinced to it, but I'll mix it up best I upload so you can judge if it's what you meant

Another Pro Tip: Throw everything you know about music theory out the fucking window. If you are so bad at writing music that you need to follow someone else's "guidlines" then whats the point of writing music.

>Feel the next note.

If the note feels off then it is off.
>Not every song needs a fucking bass line/drums/vocals.
I get that you are making 'beats' but I get sick off people saying BRETTY GUD BUT THERE ISNT ANY BASS
>If you like it someone else will.
Be confident in what you make.

Pro-Pro-Tip: fake it till you make it

c79383 No.328

1.- Chill
2.- Bass music without bass? I get your point, but a genre with the name bass in it should have some sort of bassline don't you think? It doesn't have to be bass heavy
3.- Im down to discuss, but lets be polite

FL Honestly has the best mixer out of any DAW I've ever seen. This video makes me rock hard.

b556d7 No.325

>>324
I never liked FL's mixer or layout, switched to cubase and preffered it way more

I think it was the pattern system that I hated

94a3b4 No.327

The only thing I do not like about the mixer is that there is no option to have your channels (VST, Audio Samples, Sampler) send to a cahnnel strip instantly like Logic or Cubase, I would like to have that while mixing although, I like to have that liberty while producing

Very repetitive, same thing for 4 minutes, samples sound amateur, and very simple, they need eqing and reverbing for a more spacious feel, mixdown is muddy and theres alot of clipping going on with your kick drums

I feel as if you havent gotten alot of inspiration from The Prodigy, but that drive and direction is just not there, too repetitious for my liking. Also the last 3 minutes of the bass LFO doesnt really make sense, granted some of your sounds are good, and you do manage to capture a nice atmosphere

In short, better arrangement and drive. Fix your mixdown, and that includes clipping issues

What does this even mean

Just learn the vsts and the tools and what they do, and make shit

12cbc7 No.198

Synthesis and Sound Design Masterclass by Warp Academ is a great course, but if you really want to completely understand synthesis you also need to use synths and try to understand what each knobs does imo practice is more important than theory in synthesis

I'm pretty new to this and have no idea what I'm doing. I've been told this is sorta like synthwave, but I've yet to figure out any definitive genre to put it under. Right now I'm using Korg DS-10 and Audacity to do everything.

How do I improve?

5e622b No.187

>>186
Look up basic music theory and learn notes and chords and shit like that, your stuff is harsh and repetitive, not to mention a little annoying. Its just the same thing over and over for a minute
Alot of your songs are also just noises with no coherant form or shape. So you need to work on arrangement and song structure, randomness is something that you want

Also genre really doesnt matter, int he grand scheme of things.

some of your stuff is coherent and could be cool with some work, like Boopity, but again, its very messy and hard to follow

Also get a real DAW, audacity is garbage for making music. Look at the downloads thread for links to various DAWS and synths. I'd recommend cubase 7, but if youre a beginner, FL might be easier to understand. I started with FL, hated it though

Before you even think about making music you should probably figure out how to pirate something correctly.

chill, I figured it out a while ago

I don't ever torrent

6ff7f7 No.176

well for one, when torrenting: always read the .txt or .nfo files first. ching liu always has the best instructions. if you haven't already, you'll want to double click the reg keys for fl studio. also, be careful with opening a file before it has been cracked(unless otherwise instructed). sometimes it makes it impossible to crack, to the point where you'll have delete it and install it again. just general software pirated tips.

Download Reason and read the manual. I don't use Reason anymore so it's not bias, it's really good at teaching you the fundamentals of electronic music and doubles as a lesson in how a hardware studio works. The interfaces of the synths and samplers are cross intuitive with many other vsts and hardware.

Its clipping like crazy, the scream vocal thing has too much reverb i think. Turn everything down, there's way too much clipping, there's no space in the mix, it mjust sounds like a bunch of muddy sounds thrown together, tonnes of resonant freqs everywhere, the mixdown is fairly poor.

Start by turning everything down, then turn your speakers up. EQ everything, remove unwanted frequencies, and make everything clear

ba50f1 No.178

thanks mate! do you mean clipping as in skipping? Bad upload? I don't seem to have trouble in that regard when hearing it. But I will take what you said into consideration!

ddae2b No.179

>>178
My clipping I mean cracking on the loud parts, sometimes when the drums hit theres alot of distortion from it being too loud
