>>191Sonar X3? Enjoy my terrible tutorial. Learn and love your hotkeys.
I will list the ones I use most.
P - Preferences
B - Browser (opens the browser. click Synth in the browser. Click the plus sign and select a VST. A VST is a virtual instrument, like a synth, sampler, etc. Once you have a VST open, you can go to your midi track. Adjust the "Output" to whatever VST you just created)
Alt+3 - Opens Piano Roll view when a track or clip is selected (this allows you to edit your MIDI data. Your MIDI data controls your VSTs)
F5 - Equips the Smart Tool. (The Smart Tool is the tool you'll be using most when editing clips or MIDI tracks)
S - Slice the currently selected track(s) at the currently select time
Alt+2 - Opens Console view (This let's you adjust the master volumes of each track)
Be adjusting volumes in Console view, it is important to remember that each VST you create in a project gets it's own track, which is separate from the midi track. Sometime adjusting the volume of the MIDI track doesn't yield results, so you'll have to adjust the volume of the VST's track. When you finally export a project and render it into a file, remember to have both the midi and VST tracks selected.
I don't know what VSTs come with the Studio version of your software (I use Producer), but there are a few free ones online. Look up soundfonts and learn what they are. Look up how to use each of your VSTs and experiment with them.
I'm probably only 75% accurate on all of this, but it should be enough to get you started and learning on your own. There are a number of helpful videos on youtube. As you learn more, your Google-Fu on this subject will improve, meaning you will understand the best way to search for the information you want.
