b17f30 No.97

my own

Ah I see. I thought you were remaking to practice

Well the first lead seems to be pulsing in between left and right, its a bit annoying. Its also quite metallic, might be caused by the reverb or the eq, so perhaps the waves you chose.

As you lift the filter at 24 seconds, you can tell the leads is quite thin and weak, id recommend thickening with a bit of bass and distortion, and also perhaps trying some unison if your VST has it. The leads arent horrible, its just little improvements to make it sit in the mix correctly.

thanks for the feedback. Also I try experimenting with the "progressive" sound and it all I get is the same cheesy lead sound (the sound in the clyp) I can't get anything else

ca3dfc No.100

>>99
I have this problem also. Try a completely different VST or something. Subconsciously you're the doing the same thing over and because its what you know. Branch out. listen to new stuff, watch tutorials. Fuck around.
I know its hard, because it fucking is, but just fuck around and make crazy sounds and see where it takes you

got any good tracks.
got any good vst tutorials I could watch?

ca3dfc No.104

>>100
I listen to a lot of hardstyle, and the leads vary alot in the genre, the tutorials arent so great

Here's a few tracks, all ones that i love too

What vsts do you use?

b17f30 No.106

>>104
sylenth, fxpansion stuff zebra arturia's minimoog and prophet. other odd ones here and there as well

Here's a cool one on a Square lead fir sylenth1. Really all you can do is scour youtube and pick through the crap. harderstate is an ok forum (its actually pretty shitty) and I dont really frequent many others, virus ti forums and gearslutz are a few that I rarely visit for sound design stuff i guess

>>108
yeah just got to keep at it I guess what vst do you use?

ca3dfc No.113

>>110
I mostly use my Virus ti2, which is a hardware synth, but I also dabble in sylenth1 and massive mostly. Tried Zebra 2 and hated it, but that was years ago. I hear Dune and Dune 2 are good as well.

>>113
ok I'm back do you think one of the tricks is to layer a lot?

ca3dfc No.124

>>123
Layering is super important to leads, its what helps get that thickness and variety in the sound. The hard part is fitting layers together

b17f30 No.126

>>124
fuck this you think you have something and you come back later to it and it's shit

4d015b No.127

>>126
I had that all day today. Make a lead, think it's great. Comeback 20 minutes later and it's fucking garbage

b17f30 No.128

>>127
are you the hardstyle dude?
what kinda music are you producing?

8e57d5 No.129

>>128
Yeah I'm the hard style dude, I like to dip into to other genres a little to mix it up, but I mostly do hard style. It's a hard genre

b17f30 No.130

>>129
I think the arp2600 would be good for hardstyle You could get some weird sounds from that thing

8e57d5 No.131

>>130
Is that a software synth? I'll check it! Always like adding new sounds to my library

b17f30 No.132

>>131
yeah it's from arturia but huge learning curve. My tip is to browse the presets the fuck about with one you like

ca3dfc No.134

>>132
That's really one of best ways to learn synths. I had no clue how to route shit on the virus, but then I looked at a few presets and it turned out the routing was exactly like on massive, except presented differently
