Is there any semi-proffesional way to make music on GNU+Linux? I don't have the cash for Bitwig or Tracktion, and Bitwig doesn't support plugins anyways. LMMS is awful, bloated and slow. Ardour is pretty good, but it's MIDI system is horrible, and isn't really complete. Reaper and Sunvox are both really primitive, and they lack any plugin support. Should I install a Windows VM, or should I use Wine? WineAsio seemed really handy, I may use that. What do other GNU+Linux musicians do?

Whats your pc spec, I have no problem running LMMS so far until I remove that stupid pulseaudio out from my distro.

My pc is only running on i5 and 4mb ram.

Btw, If you just want to make a midi, I would suggest a separate software specifically just for that, such as rosegarden or Ariamaestosa.

Also u need more than just that to make a quality midi. You need something that can easily test out your sound fonts and choose which ever you like, Qsynth does the job for me and its only for gnu linux.

The bloat isn't really the issue. LMMS just has a low feature ceiling in my opinion. It's also not as good as Ardour for when I need to distort and manipulate audio.

What MIDI sequencer should I use? I kinda thought that Rosegarden was a seperate DAW.

You can use rosegarden for recording a midi if you have a usb midi keyboard I believe. If you familiarized with notation and stuff, you should be able to do it.

If you want something noob friendly, Ariamaestosa is my favorite choice.

I don't actually own a MIDI keyboard at the moment, I assume I can still use Rosegarden. It sucks that I'll have to divide my workflow between to seperate programs, but oh well. Thanks for the help.

Most programs, particularly free software are only good at certain features only. But please don't feel bad about it, and its not that tedious at all to use separate programs imo as long you know what you're doing.

I can't figure out how to do phase reversal in Ardour. Does anyone know if I can?
