In the .rar are eight samples. Rules are:

Use ONLY these samples. No synths. You can put the samples into a sampler and make a grain of it into a tone.

You can mangle and edit the samples how ever you like, including vocoding.

Must also include any non musical vocal sample of your choice (Not an acapella).

Deadline is December the 12th.

How do I change the pitch/note of a sample without slowing down/speeding up the sample at the same time? FL studio12 ;_;

Change the sample's time stretching property. Can't remember the exact label or anything, but it's a drop-down menu under the main tab when you click on your sample in the channel view or double click it in the playlist.

Questions about the rules.

Can we use Effects on the samples, for instance reverb, Waveshaper, Ringmod, Autotune etc?

If we can make grains of it into samples, I am assuming that by that very definition - Granulizers are OK.

Additionally, by sample grains, I would also ASSUME that re-sampling to transform the samples into wavetables in Serum would be acceptable (as long as you ONLY use the samples to generate sound), but would like clarification.

Additionally, by sample grains, I would also ASSUME that re-sampling as Image Resynthesis in Harmor, or some other additive Resynthesis engine, for use of said plugin as an effect on the sample, would be acceptable (As long as you ONLY use the samples, and no raw Oscs

I would like clarification on these, because by using sample grains, and effects, you're also potentially opening the use of things like Harmor and alchemy for use as samplers and effects.

Hell,

Sample a 1-2 cycle sample grain and drop them into Sytrus for addative resynthesis and then only use sample grains as operators for FM. basically FMing a sample with another sample.

>TL:DR

I just want clarification of how extensively we can mangle the samples, before I get too excited.

slight continuation of >>1442

you mentioned Vocoding.

Can we only vocode one of the samples, using another sample as the carrier sound, or are we allowed to use other sounds for carrier, with sample as modulator.

These are important questions.

Also, Non musical sample, meaning like, a clip of dialogue from an anime or a movie or something? what if it's a non-musical vocal clip that's in a song, like one of michael jackson's weird scream things? Does the sample have to be a sample we record ourselves, or can we sample it from elsewhere. I mean, if you're gonna set up these rules, you had best clarify, because if not, I could just record myself flatly speaking the lyrics of a song on beat, and then throw a vocoder on it. it wasn't an acapella, but I feel like that would totally go against the spirit of this game.

This is basically round one of something that might happen more, if it works out. It's a testing period to see if the rules are too lax or constricting. Round two rules will be different.

You can definitely use effects.

Granulizers are OK.

I've never used Harmor, but if you can only use samples, then yes, you can use it. You CAN NOT USE A SYNTH TO MAKE A SOUND, only mangle the ones in the .RAR. If you use a sampler to turn it into a little waveform, that's OK.

FM a sample with a sample is OK.

Non musical sample is speech from a movie or TV script.

If in doubt, keep to the spirit of the game, which is to learn a new way of doing things, and hopefully share with others how you did it.

So I can do shit like add a pitch envelope and time stretching to make drum samples out of these samples, and warp the ever living shit out of them in harmor. sure, but i'll probably end up with just shitty bad sounding drum loops made from them, with weird textures made out of them. but yeah.... i'll get on that... hopefully... got lots of shit goin' on.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I made the kick for mine, out of the Light sample.

091c76 No.1448

so I uh.... I started messing with the samples. I was feeling pretty uninspired for some reason, then I started just randomly fiddling with glitch.wav using harmor, and I came up with this over the course of about 10-15 minutes, and then got bored. the other one, what was it, grind? that one is a more fun one to granularize, I can tell that right now, ESPECIALLY using harmor as a granularizer, just switch it to square harmonics instead of saw, and adjust a few settings first and you can get some crazy sounds with that... I might use that at some point, but.... not right now... just... not feeling it at all.

Can we use serum to manipulate samples?

I've never used it. If you see a piece of kit in the thread that is similar, and that is OK, then yes.
