I've had FL studios 11 for a couple of years now, but only recently have I had time to actually compose without wanting to destroy everything thanks to my previous work environment.

Now that I'm getting started, which VSTs do you guys recommend I get for use? I'm an orchestral guy by the way, synth just isn't my thing.

The above has examples of the kind of music I'd like to compose. Especially the Kurzgesagt pieces.

Does it have to be possible to pirate? EWQL have the best orchestra libraries I've heard. First place: Hollywood Orchestra (four installments for brass, strings, woodwinds and percussion. Second place: Symphonic Orchestra (gold or platinum), affordable and realistic. Buy the mic position extension too (close and surround in addition to stage) and learn how to make them sound as realistic as possible.

If you can make do with generic strings sections (max hollywood feel) you can use the non-ilok ones like Session Strings for Kontakt. It has a neat spic/stac pattern programmer and works fine for string sections, but it just doesn't feel as high quality realistic as the more classy sounding libraries that require a dongle with authentic licenses connected to your PC to use.

I'll see if I have an example on SC.

Here are a few tracks. Keep in mind I worked very little on these, so you can get it much more realistic sounding.

I suggest GTG Synths. Even though you said you don't want synth shit, I have managed to make sweet sounding strings with them with the right convolution or time effects.

I suggest you learn how to synthesize since you often need to add a doubling instrument to thicken the sound out, and making it yourself makes it your own tailor made sound.
