What's your view on quantization?

I personally prefer to quantize only my kick drums and record everything else live, leaving the imperfections untouched. It makes it feel like an actual performance imo.

I find quantization a real pain in the arse most of the time, I try and quantize sections where parts of a production is really out of kilter but avoid entire sections as the drum beat I want completely changes.

For me quantization works wonders, since I'm an EDM producer, when I come up with melodys on my keyboard it makes it easier to get really mechanical sounding notes

it depends. sometimes i like to just solo without any quantization for a piano. other times i need to quantize some synth sequence. usually you don't want to have it too strong or else you notice the pattern of a sequence clearly enough that you end up getting bored of your track.

Kill it with fire, play all notes in

I personally prefer a mix of both highly quantized and flat sounds, with humanized non-quantized lead melodies.

For example, Quantized drums and keyboards, and rhythm instruments, but a funk bass, vocals, electric guitar, lead synth, etc, can all be done without quantization, because it lets you do some really weird rhythms that can't be done reasonably with quantization.

Basically, if it sounds like a human rocking out over a hoard of angry machines, I'm happy.

I quantize nothing, unless I want to give something a very mechinical feeling.
