Your DAW a shit. I've used Steinberg Cubase and Ableton live, and neither can compare to Ardour. It incorporates all of the best elements from other popular DAWs, such as the FL-syle editor, Abelton's audio manipulation, and plenty of Cubase standards. It's even fully FLOSS. VSTs seem to work pretty well, although I haven't tried to install Serum or Massive yet. General Ardour thread.

Downloading a ready to run version is a minimum of $1 with all features unlocked, otherwise it's silence in 10 minutes

If you download the source code and compile it yourself, all features are unlocked, no limit, and it's free.

That's an interesting little bit. If you have the know-how to just download the source and compile, it's totally free. but otherwise it's $1. It is literally cheaper to buy this DAW than to buy a beer or a coke. It is cheaper than a burger off the dollar menu (because tax)

I'm still not going to use it, I have cracked FL 11.something and I like it. there are few DAWs I experiment with anymore because the workflow is so wonkey. and it makes me uncomfortable, BUT this is a great alternative for people that don't feel safe with cracks or don't have a shitload of money just laying around. It's a nice thing to have.

When you install something from the AUR you're compiling it. So that's probably why it was free.
