No.341303
With little fanfare and almost no news media attention, some of the same radical groups involved in shutting down Donald Trump’s Chicago rally last week are plotting a mass civil disobedience movement to begin next month.
They intend to march across the East Coast in order to spark a “fire that transforms the political climate in America.”
The operation, calling itself Democracy Spring, is threatening “drama in Washington” with the “largest civil disobedience action of the century.” The radicals believe this will result in the arrest of thousands of their own activists.
“We will demand that Congress listen to the People and take immediate action to save our democracy. And we won’t leave until they do — or until they send thousands of us to jail,” the website for Democracy Spring declares, channeling rhetoric from the Occupy movement.

I think the Dem's votes are low because they don't see much of a difference between the two candidates in the grand scheme of things. They're only concern is "not Republican".
That's why the 2008 numbers were high, coming off the GW administration spurred a lot of them to get anyone in the Whitehouse so long as that person wasn't a Republican. That's also why roughly 15 Dems ran that year. I was afraid our country doomed itself to this cycle. Win or lose, Trump's actions will resonate and finally fix this broken party.

That's kind of a silly example. The Great Wall of China is actually a series of fortifications that were built over the course of over a millennium, with a lot of slave/forced labor. Also, they didn't get the Mongols to pay for it.
I don't think anybody disputes that a significant wall theoretically could be built between the US and Mexico. It's an engineering challenge that's well within our abilities. It's the practical concerns, political and financial, that make it ridiculous. Obviously, Mexico isn't going to pay for it. I don't think American taxpayers would want to pay for it, once they realize how much an effective wall would actually cost.
If you want to discourage illegal immigration from Mexico and Central America, there are better ideas, some of which Trump has argued for. Like ending the ability of people to stay in the country because of anchor babies. People inaccurately call that "ending birthright citizenship", but that's not what it is, since jus sanguinis citizenship isn't being questioned, just jus soli citizenship.
Anyway, the wall isn't going to happen. It's a fun thought, but that's all.

I do know that in Spring of 2013, Feminist memes started popping up out of nowhere on Tumblr and SJW culture really started. It's almost like 2013 was "Feminzi Spring" or something like that, but I don't think they called it that nor did the media describe it that way as far as I know; however, 2014 was shilled by the media as the "Year of the Woman" with the feminazi message mainstreamed via an all out media shilling in Hollywood, online and on TV in commercials, news and shows. 2014 was also the year of mass civil unrest in Ferguson that would blow up in 2015 and 2016 and the year gamers united and fought back against all of this SJW bullshit in the movement known as #gamergate.
With the apparent coordination the Left received from moveon.org, a Soros front, Fourth Wave Feminazism seems heavily coordinate.

Not necessarily. We need the government to step up & do their damn job. And that starts with getting industry insiders out of our government agencies. They've been fully infiltrated to the highest levels(EPA by fossil fuel & other industries, FDA by pharmaceutical company higher-ups). This & organizations like ALEC need to be reigned in. If you don't know about ALEC, you should look it up right now. And for economic stability, we don't necessarily need more regulation, just for them to put back/reinstate the policies that they've repealed, like Glass-Steagall, for instance.
I'm a Sanders supporter. The economy, trade & education are the issues I care about the most. Healthcare following those. We're going to have another market crash if we don't curtail this BS on Wall Street.
But hey, neighborino(if you really are from Ohio), I'm from KY. What about this heroin epidemic lately? Shit's gotten insane lately. I've lost 5 friends over the past 1 & half years. Sanders is the only one I've heard even mentioning this heroin epidemic. I don't know what the solution is, but prison reform & treating addiction as the health issue it is, is a start. Because this shit is flooding in & now we're starting to see tar heroin here, which was mostly a Western US thing & hadn't been seen for decades. The strategy to the heroin problem right now is prevention and putting a boot up pharma's ass. I work in criminal justice; the HIDTA office I was helping for class is cracking down on over-prescribing of meds, especially those containing opiates. And there is prison reform: if people plea bargain on their drug charges, they usually get put into a treatment program. The problem is they tend to slip up, miss a session or two, and their court-ordered piss cup or blood sample will contain opiates, heroin, and other goodies.

>cracking down on over-prescribing of meds
You know what's funny? Is that's doing the complete opposite effect, or at least contributing to the problem. I work in the health field, and was there when House Bill 1 was put into place in KY, which called for semi-mandatory drug screening for anyone receiving opiates or controlled substance RXs. It sounded good, but had some crazy unintended consequences.
What happened was, many people were denied their medication if they had pot in their systems. Medication many really needed, and it was hard for me to send out letters to people who were being informed they could not receive their medicine anymore. But the most important consequence was, pills of course dried up on the streets, and in the rare occurrence you could find them, the price skyrocketed because of low supply & high demand. People who were addicted were looking for anything that would make them not be sick, any opiate. All of the sudden, heroin could fill that niche, dealers took advantage of that and it flooded in. Heroin is also dirt cheap, now.
When it comes to these "treatment programs", those are a disaster. All they offer is drug court. And I've known only one person who made it through drug court without failing a drug test & being sent to jail or prison. It's not rehab, in any shape or form. It's basically drug probation. They should offer actual rehabs. And in many cases, the Drug Courts won't allow addicts to receive Methadone or Suboxone treatment. They treat it as an illicit drug. It's really insane & a broken system.

That's not what I mean: the HIDTA office here is trying to recreate the Boston's office plan because it worked: stop people from being prescribed meds unnecessarily in the first place. Boston managed to get in with a medical school and develop a 1 credit hour course for doctors and pharmacists for their CE requirements that was basically "stop giving everyone that comes into your office a fucking prescription, you quacks. The ones who aren't are alright."
New England's seen a reduction in opiate abuse and new heroin addicts since they started going after doctors and trying to drill some resistance to prescribing this shit into them. You work in the medical field, so does half my family, so I know that you know at least one doctor who gives anything to any patient that twists their arm enough.
As far as treatment programs, the halfway houses and clinics here do offer treatment, I don't know about methadone usage though. I just worked on creative surveillance (as in, bypassing the need for a warrant).

This article is nothing close to debunking, rather fact checks a couple of things which were pointed out in the comment section already, of the original post.
The author of the original post uses multiple sources for each claim. So if just one is misquoted(only one was), it simply doesn't make the others not true. It was wise to include multiple sources for each claim.
>Climate change
>he's blatantly wrong again. He confuses a news article with Trump's official position again. He claims Trump's official website published:
This is from the horse's mouth:
https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/265895292191248385 (He then claims to be semi-serious about it, but then reaffirms it in the next link.)
http://mediamatters.org/video/2014/01/06/fox-regular-donald-trump-decries-climate-change/197432
He calls global warming a hoax, outright.
>Minimum wage & income inequality
This "debunking" article just claims the original poster didn't include enough of Trump's plan. The OP linked to it.
>Trump may be against raising the minimum wage, but it's not because he wants working people to earn less, but because he wants to bring back good paying jobs, instead of artificially raising the wages of unproductive jobs.
This is their rebuttal to minimum wage.
>Bring back good paying jobs
Which are?
>unproductive jobs
Like what?
>Foreign policy
Sanders has much, much more experience dealing with foreign policy. The author of this rebuttal post isn't satisfied with that.
Trump has flip flopped on his support for the Iraq War, which OP rightly pointed out. The rebuttal just isn't happy with it.
It's important to note the length & detail in the OP vs. the rebuttal. And lack of links in the rebuttal - only 3. Trump supporters always seem lazy. :^)
>Electoral College
>"he admits Trump has expressed desire to reform the system, but criticizes him for not being specific enough. The general elections are still several months away. He will come up with a specific plan when he considers it the proper time."
>It seems that rather being a post showing what both candidates propose, it was a deliberate attempt to smear Trump and cherrypick anything that could be used against him. In fact, in his eagerness to smear Trump, he even went on to wrongly attribute him two quotes merely because they were in articles about Trump.
They were articles from Trump's own website. And I'd hardly call it as him being "eager to smear Trump". Firstly, don't flatter yourselves. Secondly, OP's post was extremely well thought out, pretty balanced(he even admits he's voting Sanders). It contained fair criticism for both candidates.

As far as treatment you listed, I'm surprised. Clinics should be very helpful. They cover the medical side while halfway houses cover the social side.
Boston/New England seems much more progressive/advanced on these issues than KY. It's surprising how different states can be in the way they tackle issues.
KY is also implementing stricter drug court & many practices from Florida, which are ghastly. Florida has been late to the party in curbing opiate RX abuse & greedy doctors, then overcompensated by going too hard. They're handing out insanely harsh sentences for illegal opiate RX possessions, etc. I knew a lot of people who used to regularly to "pain clinics" in FL to get opiates. Basically, they were drug dens run by doctors. There was always a line out the door, people fucked up in the parking lot & all you had to do was bring money & basically ask for what you wanted(kind of like the mail order RXs, if you remember those. I used those a couple of times, actually). It was like a dream for drug addicts, and I couldn't believe it was allowed to happen. They're shutting them down now, I believe. But the damage has been done to many people.
>so I know that you know at least one doctor who gives anything to any patient that twists their arm enough.
Oh, yes. Thank God they're rarer now. It used to be any doctor would supply you. Now even in KY they've really cracked down on it. I completely agree with cracking down on these doctors(a great strategy that will stop so many from becoming addicts in the first place).
But the atmosphere around KY(possibly many other states, too) in the past 5 years is, any doctor is scared to prescribe pain meds. Even when you're in the ER in immense pain, you're looked at like a drug addict if you ask for pain medication. I've been in such severe tooth pain I couldn't move, and had to jump through hoops to get some relief with pain medication. I'm a complete pussy when it comes to pain.
Anyway, I totally agree with that approach, of shutting down greedy doctors who overprescribe. Good for your state. It's their greed that motivates these doctors & they create addicts with no regard to them or society. Many addicts who had no idea what causes addiction or just very uneducated. I was one of them. So public information campaigns like PSAs would actually be very valuable. And not just those lazy, "before & after" photos of meth addicts, but with actual information on how it happens & what these people suffer afterwards. They should put as much effort into demonizing painkillers(which deserve it) as they do for pot(which doesn't, especially not on that level). I was so pissed when I realized I was addicted, because I didn't know anything about addiction so that I could've prevented it. I described it as something like a cruel joke waking up one morning, realizing I needed them now.
Now I know, and know far too much about what causes addiction & how it affects people. People like you & I should work together. ;) I give you a former addict's perspective & you relay it to your bosses. We should really all work together to combat this.

Excluding superdelegates(establishment votes), he's only down by 314 & the progressive states haven't even voted yet. The biggest is Cali, and that should go to Sanders, hands down. This article is counting superdelegates as if they matter to the citizens. It's just an establishment tool.

Why are people so emotional over Trump? Like, there are levels of hatred of him that I don't think I've seen since Bush got his second term. He's probably the most centrist Republican candidate, to the point that he's been accused by multiple people of not being a real conservative, but these progressive kids seem to think that he's literally Hitler. Stranger yet, most of the anti-Trump propaganda is from the GOP. Why do progressives suddenly believe what the right is saying?

We have a system that was devised to work for the common good of the Republic back in the day before modern telecommunications.
Delegates (typically landed gentry) would travel (often long distances) to join the convention and cast the populist vote for their constituencies. In the event of no clear consensus, they would then have rounds of voting & horse-trading in between, until a clear nominee was obtained.
I'm not a US historian, so take this description with many grains of salt. But as I understand it atp, this basically the process.
Today it's a rather archaic system that most likely should be replaced now that we have modern telecommunications. But to do so would fundamentally change the nature of the Republic–something that's extremely unlikely to happen outside of TSHTF.

It'd (slightly) cut down on the amount coming in reducing the supply but do jack shit overall to "help" the situation. Instead, you'd have increased costs (wouldn't cut the supply that much, but dealers would take advantage of it), addicts going towards cheaper, but more dangerous and profitable alternatives and an increase in deaths due to drug users having a harder time finding good quality drugs. The heroin problem in New Hampshire and a lot of other states is because the government went after doctors over-prescribing painkillers so people who liked opiates looked to the black market to get their high and ended up going to heroin because it's cheap. Because the purity varies greatly from batch to batch lots of people overdose from getting an unusually potent batch or slowly damage their bodies because of all the additives (not the heroin itself). Wouldn't have had that problem if they left people alone and let them do relatively safe pharmaceutical opiates instead. But hey, we're talking about government here. If you thought the problems we created sucked, just wait till you hear out "solutions".
No.342578
>>342563
Honestly, no. A wall isn't necessary. Strict border control should be enough. As good as our border security is, I do find it suspicious that the flow of drugs is not stopped, but remains steady. It's even growing in many places.
I'm thinking there's a good amount of quid pro quo going on, between dealers & government officials. Money & power makes people greedy. No wall will change this.

Completely true. I worked in the healthcare field when these bills went into effect(to curb prescriptions). I was also on Methadone at that time. So I saw it working on both ends.
At least, as you mention, with over the counter drugs they were measured & you knew what you were getting. With heroin it can't be measured because potency differs. A lot of people are dying, now. It's really tragic.
