 No.343314

With Donald Trump continuing to win primaries and peddling his all-encompassing personal brand, the explanations for his success have begun to compound. Some say Trump speaks to dispossessed blue-collar workers. Others claim that Trump’s apparent authenticity resonates with cynical voters who have grown tired of stage-managed political campaigns.

These reasons are nothing new, though. “People are angry and always have been,” said Brent Boyea, an associate professor of political science at the University of Texas at Arlington. “Trump isn’t the first politician to exploit voter anger or unrest, or to challenge the so-called ‘establishment,’ and he won’t be the last.”

What is new about Trump, however, is that he has made this challenge in a thoroughly modern way: He is a troll, someone who scores rhetorical points with outrageous or controversial comments, consequences be damned.

Trump’s rise has been abetted in part by a loose configuration of social media users often collectively termed the “alt-right,” for lack of a better term. These individuals, many of whom proudly identify as trolls themselves, have developed a strong affinity for Trump, whom they characterize as one of the most skillful trolls in existence.

I guess calling it trolling is easier than dealing with the fact that people are so tired of the established democratic process that they'd rather have a kook for president than deal with more of this bullshit. I would rather deal with whatever consequences come from electing Trump than deal with all those other clowns who will undoubtedly bring more of the same.

I'll keep my moral and political beliefs to a limit here and say that I've had a hard time finding somebody I agree with to vote for. This has been ongoing, but Obama really made it clear who I wanted as president; Emperor Palpatine. Emphasis on the Emperor part, I want the strong leader with clear goals and motivations, that strives for greatness. It's the evil I know, the evil I understand and while I disagree with it, it's a step up from what we, as Americans, keep getting offered.

Trump is, as far as I know, the closest thing I'll ever get to this. It's my realistic compromise that I'll never get a GOOD leader, so settling for an evil one I want Emperor Palpatine. The sudden rise of the "Emperor Trump" meme just made it all the funnier to me in a dark comedy sorta way.

The difference is the level of support.

If the Republican establishment would actually stick to their principles in saying "smaller government" things would actually be better right now, imo. The problem is, big business complains about not being "free market" enough, at the same time infiltrating any government agency that will give them a business leg up.  No.343878

There's a good chance I'll wind up voting Trump. And it's not because I like the prick either.

Hillary is basically a mafia don. Just search up all the scandals the Clinton administration have been in. Not to mention her strategy for the Middle East is "build up soldiers there to fight IS for us". Like we did with the soldiers who later became part of Isis to fight Al-Qaeda. Or like how we trained Al-Qaeda to fight the soviets. Or like how we trained the Vietcong to fight the Japanese. I think you see the pattern.

Cruz is a lobbyist puppet candidate. You can tell just by looking at his policies. Who the hell besides paid cable company shills is against net neutrality? And he's removing the overseas workers tax.

Sanders has the dumb idea that throwing money at all the problems will solve them. With America already operating at a loss, we'll be asking Greece for loans with him as president.

And while Trump will build a wall to try to keep out drug dealers who mostly come by boat or car (who the hell would lug 300lbs of meth across Texas on foot?) and bring feudalism to America with the removal of the death tax, he'll at least fix the medical industry.

Forcing hospitals to adhere to good business practices like not forcing your customers to pay when you didn't do anything for them and making them list their prices could have a tremendous effect on how much medical costs in the US.

Our health care costs twice as much as the 2nd highest costing country, there's fuckery going on there.

But if this reduces costs by even just 20%, that could save America over 200 billion dollars in spending. (the annual spending on Medicare/Medicaid is 1.05 trillion) And America is spending 400 billion more than it makes every year. He's possibly fixed half the problem with a single policy. If it brings our medical costs to a point where they are comparable to Canada's, he'll possibly have brought America to a point where it can start paying off it's debt with only a single policy.

Pretty much the reason Trump would be elected is similar to how Aussies say Tony Abbott got elected, the other guys are worse.

Thats not what inflation means.

Obviously the differences in currency value are already taken in to account in a report that spans many countries.

What isnt taken in to account is taxes and living costs which are lower in many countries than the US.

Sanders does pose the most threat. The infighting in your own party is because each thinks they have the best plan to keep the status quo, not that he won't continue it.

Sanders has to fight tooth & nail to get airtime. At least Trump gets way more of an amount of favorable pieces. That's indisputable. He gets more coverage, overall. And as we know, any publicity, even bad publicity is good publicity. At least many know about Trump & his plans.

We like Trump. Presidents get elected more because voters like them than anything else.

Obama got 95% of the black vote, and nobody is gonna tell me those voters had ANY "facts or even any arguments" to support their choice.

Most people who won't vote for Hillary will not do so because they just don't like her.

I gave Sanders $100 last summer because I agree with most of his platform, but I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that he'd never be able to institute even one half of his pipe dreams that include free college and free health care.

The president can tax however they want but they can't control what CEO's and the like charge for goods and services. There is NO WAY when faced with higher taxes, people (as-in the human beings being taxed) are gonna not immediately think of and come up with ways to offset their losses - which WILL effect the regular people in the form of higher prices for goods and services.

>The president can tax however they want

It's Congress who does this.

CEO's & business leaders can charge whatever they want. But if they want to be profitable in the community, they have to go with the market. This is still capitalism, if they run their business shoddily, they will pay the price for that. If they raise their prices & the people can't afford it, they'll lose business, obviously.

>>344188 This anon explained it for me. Also, a simple Google search will get you this:

>Democratic socialism is a political system wherein there is democratic control of a socialist economic system. It thus combines political democracy with social ownership of significant elements of the means of production.

For example, our roads, pipes, basic publicly funded infrastructures like this are done using socialism. Also, the police depts., fire depts., etc.

Look into FDR. He was very likely our most popular president, elected to four terms because he did such a good job. He rebuilt America. They call what he did "The New Deal", and it was socialism in a Democracy. People are calling Sanders a "new dealer" because he's advocating & wants the same thing. We're overdue for it in America. We received a D- in infrastructure safety 10 years ago. I can only imagine it's at an F- now. People are being poisoned by their own water, bridges are crumbling & killing motorists(You might be too young to remember the Minneapolis bridge collapse incident, look it up, there's video, too) - In America, ffs. We have the ability to be better than this.

>what is executive order 9066?

FDR is also responsible for the Glass-Steagall act. Its passage further consolidated power into the hands of the international central banking cartel. Woodrow Wilson was the first to sell out the American people but FDR did it again.

While it was good that he invested money in infrastructure projects, it's hard to square that with what he did to future generations of Americans by putting them in debt which can never be paid off due to the nature of the banking system.

Sanders betrayed Ron Paul and the American people when he had a chance to investigate the Federal Reserve. Bernie Sanders folded under pressure from the central bankers.

The wall will cost 10 billion dollars.

Here's how that's broken down: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkSo0QQLUfE

Even if you only count the cost of free tax credits paid to illegal immigrants at 4.2 billion a year, the wall pays for itself in less than three years.

Here's how Trump plans to get the money from Mexico (from his website): Mexico must pay for the wall and, until they do, the United States will, among other things: impound all remittance payments derived from illegal wages; increase fees on all temporary visas issued to Mexican CEOs and diplomats (and if necessary cancel them); increase fees on all border crossing cards – of which we issue about 1 million to Mexican nationals each year (a major source of visa overstays); increase fees on all NAFTA worker visas from Mexico (another major source of overstays); and increase fees at ports of entry to the United States from Mexico [Tariffs and foreign aid cuts are also options].

"The Glass-Steagall Act, also known as the Banking Act of 1933 (48 Stat. 162), was passed by Congress in 1933 and prohibits commercial banks from engaging in the investment business. It was enacted as an emergency response to the failure of nearly 5,000 banks during the Great Depression."

>Sanders betrayed Ron Paul and the American people when he had a chance to investigate the Federal Reserve. Bernie Sanders folded under pressure from the central bankers.

>Bernie Sanders betrayed Ron Paul and the American people

That's a goddamn lie & an incredible statement. Sanders worked with him closely & for years to craft the bill. They both cared a lot for it & did good with it.

>"Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) introduced an amendment on the floor effectively adding the Grayson-Paul language to the Senate bill, but later changed his amendment under pressure by the Federal Reserve and the Obama administration. The altered Sanders amendment passed the Senate on May 11, 2010 by a unanimous 96-0 vote."

He understands compromise is necessary. "Altered" is code for compromise. And the amendment passed! One step at a time, anon. Suggesting Bernie is corrupt is insulting & a downright lie. The amendment wouldn't have had a chance without compromise.

>Upset that Bernie gets things done & is bipartisan

>Trump wants to audit the Fed, as well. I'd rather give Trump a first chance than give Sanders a second chance.

I'm really sick of this attitude. You can go fuck yourself. Trump is part of the Plutocracy. Assuming he's ever in his life going to fight for these reforms is asinine. Trump benefits from the status quo. It's the Tea Party all over again. They complain about the corruption that they contribute to. It's underhanded & they should be ashamed. The Tea Party was a clever movement funded by the Koch Brothers. I was young & bought into it - until I saw the FOX News Tea Party bus tour. Give me a break. https://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/banking/glass-steagall-act-explained/

>"The Glass-Steagall Act is actually a set of provisions included in the broader Banking Act of 1933, a response to the bank failures of the Great Depression. The Banking Act created the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. to safeguard consumers’ deposits at commercial banks and included the Glass-Steagall provisions to reduce the risk of providing such insurance."
