he was referring to the fact I said oil earlier
and big tubes of quality oil paint, a decent set up is hundreds of dollars, like if you go to a store and pick all the colors you want like an adult with a job, you can then either make your own canvas or buy canvas, but quality big canvas isn't cheap either when compared to the dollar store shit you can grab, or stuff at walmart
I personally think when I go to a museum and see monet or rembrandt and they've painted in oil, that's the standard, that's what you're up against as an artist, so if you're calling yourself an "artist" and you're not painting in oil, you're just a pleb who's not serious
if you were serious you would realize you're in direct competition with people who used to mix their own pigment and oil along with making their own brushes and canvases, someone like picasso who was painting perfect still life as a boy is knowingly doing cubism, a real artist has to realize they are competing with people like that
so to NOT use the highest quality supplies you can get your hands on, it's just an amateur move, and if you can't get your hands on decent oil paint, get another job or figure something out, but don't call yourself an artist and be serious about it when you're using a $1 box of crayons, a $1 pack of sharpie markers and a $1 pack of pencil crayons and a $1 pad of paper
it's like an NBA player using the $4.97 thin rubber ball from walmart
