"Donald Trump’s campaign promise that he was going to bring coal jobs back has not come to fruition, and in fact, more coal plants have closed during Trump’s first two years than throughout Barack Obama’s entire first term.

While running for office, Trump promised to end the United States’ “war on coal” — and those working in the industry were desperate to believe, says CNN.

At rallies in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio, the Trump campaign distributed signs which read “Trump Digs Coal,” and the candidate spoke to those who had lost coal jobs — or were clinging to them — and said that he could reverse the process by overturning regulations put in place by President Obama.

“We are putting our great coal miners back to work. I’m coal’s last shot.”

But former coal miner and industry consultant Art Sullivan shakes his head when asked if Trump can save the coal industry, and says that the people of coal country were lied to."

Trump's U.S. Coal Consumption Is Less Than Obama's

U.S. coal consumption for the past seven Presidents

1979: Approximately 700 million short tons: Carter’s second to last year in office

1988: Approximately 870 million short tons: Reagan’s last year in office

1992: Approximately 925 million short tons: George H. W. Bush’s last year in office

2000: 1,084 million short tons: Bill Clinton’s last year in office

2008: 1,124 million short tons: George W. Bush’s last year in office

2016: 731 million short tons: Barack Obama’s last year in office

2018: 691 million short tons: Trump’s second year in office

Fake news!! Our entire economy will be coal based by 2021. Just watch.

Good morning libtards. Let's try some logic. In Obummer's first term, he was still working on the environmental / fuck over america agenda. So it took some time to get the industry dying off, and that is called inertia. Trump is doing his best to save the industry, but it isn;t easy because Obummer pushed a lot of EPA regs that burden the industry, and you green dick sucking faggots have done nothing but obstruct the President, who, incidently, is the pilot of the plane called the USA, and you should be rooting for him, not obstructing.

why even bother debunking them. its suspect enough that theyre suddenly sad about coal plants closing.

I live in a rural area and the local coal plant nearby is actually hiring MORE people than it did in the last 20 years.

>2 years of consumption vs 8 years of consumption

If he's at 691 halfway through this term, then wouldn't it be twice that by the end of it at that rate?

get ready for some facts

it's by year, not term. the fact is that almost half of coal plants lose money. they are just not profitable. renewable energy has become a huge industry, it's cheaper and has the benefit of being cleaner and sustainable and attracting more kinds of employment in various industries. trump is backing a losing industry for no good reason other than he thought it would win him support in states that still run (money-losing) coal plants. This president is not smart. he's poo-pooed renewables to the point that now china has become the world leader investing in renewable clean energy like wind, solar, water, and as they ramp up their production, experience and economies of scale, they will own another industry that the US used to be the leader in and everybody will be buying solar panels and turbines from China.

It's funny that people still think that Trump was elected based on economic reasons or campaign promises. Even TRUMP HIMSELF thinks that his promise to build the wall means jack shit to his supporters: it doesn't and never did!

The reason Trump was elected is because he was the one candidate who openly postured that he was going to rid America of all the gays and blacks and brown people and any "bad" religion, and put women back in the kitchen. There is literally nothing else to it. These people would vote for him even if he, himself, beat them into a near-coma.

wrong dumbass. Trump uses racism to bait his low IQ base. The repubs have been doing it for decades.

Before Melania Trump dated bi-racial model for 2 years

"Kara Young, a model who dated Donald J. Trump for two years before he married another model named Melania Knauss, remembers clearly bringing up her race with the real estate tycoon early in their relationship. As with so many issues, he steered the conversation to celebrity.

“I didn’t hide my race from Donald Trump. He knew,” Ms. Young said in a rare interview. “He would say, ‘You’re like Derek Jeter.’ And I would say, ‘Exactly.’”

“I never heard him say a disparaging comment towards any race of people,” she added."

just wait and trust in the plan

When you hear paid representatives of the coal industry crying doom and gloom, consider this, that with modern automated mining technology, there are only about 30,000 coal mining jobs in all the United States. There are in contrast 3.5 million Americans currently at work in the alternative energy industry, a field that will expand for decades to come as demand continues to grow.

You are witnessing nothing more than aggressive competition among energy sector corporations battling for market share. Do not be deceived into thinking that replacing outdated and dangerous technology with a safer, cleaner way of powering our civilization will somehow infringe on your rights. If you do the research you will discover that the lobbyists and think tanks cranking out anti-environmental propaganda today are the same entities that fought for the tobacco companies’ right to profit from selling what they knew to be a toxic, addictive product that is the number one cause of preventable death in the United States.
