Stream announcements and discussion. Movies, music, vidya, and others!

Finally, a place for all things livestream.

• Announce streams and their details

• Discuss the promotion of streams (you probably want to consult >>30 for hostile boards)

• Discuss, past, present, and future streams

• Ask for interest in a potential stream, or fish for streaming ideas

The stream under discussion does not have to be yours, but please try to keep to one thread per stream (obviously excepting those that hit the bump limit). Also, please don't bump for visibility alone unless the stream is HAPPEN NOW or has fallen off of Page 1. If you actually have something to say, bumping is fine.

Any type of realtime stream is fair game, regardless of the content. This does not include content people can download, unless it is a duplicate of something transmitted originally in realtime. (So if you want to tell people about the downloadable version of a stream that already ran, that's fine. If you're a podcaster who only does downloadables, that's not on-topic.)

I realize this includes some potential "moral hazards", so please note if your stream is "adult", or mixed content.

Do not hijack existing threads. If you oppose something, fine, but start your own thread and shill your stream there.

Anyone can stream, on any topic, and using whatever site they wish. It just has to be live, and please make a note if your content is likely to be NSFW unless it's obvious. (Running R-rated movies, for example, is obvious).

Also, chances are pretty good you will run something that someone else has run relatively recently, because there are so many streams going on that don't bother announcing what they're going to or have run. We know they exist if they post here, but we don't know what they're doing.

Greetings /nacht/, >>>/grim/ here.

As has been posted here >>182 I'm doing horror streams this month on the weekends. As promised, I'm posting here to confirm that they're going down tonight and tomorrow. Apologies for the short notice, or if I fucked up the UTC times.

This week we're starting off in the beginnings of horror, with the German Expressionist film movement and the classic Universal Studios films inspired by them:

German Expressionism: 10/9/15

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari - 20:00 PST (UTC - 7:00)

15 min break

Nosferatu - 21:30 PST (UTC - 7:00)

15 min break

Vampyr - 23:20 PST (UTC - 7:00)

Classic Universal Horror: 10/10/15

Dracula - 20:00 PST (UTC - 7:00)

15 min break

Frankenstein - 21:40 PST (UTC - 7:00)

15 min break

The Black Cat - 22:05 PST (UTC - 7:00)

Check out this thread for the full schedule, and feel free to post suggestions for movies for the weeks following the next one (I still haven't decided entirely yet on what to stream for the 30th and 31st):

To Magestream, /nacht/ will act like a base of operations. We'll have suggestion threads for theme night, and we'll even post the theme's schedule and playlist (If we can).

But don't take this as a sign /nacht/ is coming back for certain, we still need content other than what will be happening on Magestream to not have a dead board again. /nacht/ was made with community in mind and it needs that to stay together. The lack of community is why /nacht/ went downhill, we didn't have anyone else interested in streaming. Instead, we had people who were interested in movies and would rather belong at a better version of /tv/.

As long as it isn't too off topic, any thread related to streams will be accepted here at /nacht/. /nacht/ can be used for movies, vidya, cartoons, or anything you want to stream or have streamed. In general, /nacht/ should be a place where community can come together, that's what it was meant for.

This is a single purpose thread. Here, list boards that have been hostile to stream invitations, along with the specific reason they are worthy of being excluded from all further contact.

/fit/ - hostile shitposting, no support.

/mu/ - hostile shitposting, no support. (And after all I've done to participate there.)

/co/ - deleted thread.

/int/ - deleted thread.

/loli/ - deleted thread.

/a/ - deleted thread (of /grim/).

/pol/ - shitposting chat (can't shut up, everything is "the Jews did this!")

/pone/ - see attached graphic. If they can't understand why a stream operator might need to protect himself against impersonation, fuck them.

Other boards not to contact:

/amp/, /dsx/ - low attendance, and a permanent message pointing them at /nacht/ should they be interested. (This does not apply if your stream is on topic.)

Note that since promotion of streams is up to the discretion of the operator(s), this is not a rule. You can ignore this list completely if you like. This is just here as advance warning, so if you go to one of the above and get treated badly, don't say we didn't warn you.

There was no doubt about the deletions. Things don't get pushed off even Page 5 in under an hour, except possibly on /b/. I was posting to a lot of boards before checking back where I started, and it was gone that quickly.

Short answer: no.

Long answer: No. The crowd turned on me when I tried to promote the very first movie night, after I'd gone out of my way to make it topical (by including my own music). Fuck that. As you noted, I contributed to ARF, I posted albums on request (if I had them), and I believed I was generally helpful around /mu/, but that was all forgotten in a flash when I was accused of "shilling". (Yeah, like I make any money from streaming movies I don't own.)

I've been wanting an animation night to happen for some time, whether it be that I stream it or someone else does. But I don't know what kind of films people would want to see. So in this poll are a couple animated films that not everyone will think of immediately, you can choose 4 films.

Considering I would be streaming on toaster that disconnects periodically, the results will be more of a reference sheet if someone else decides to pick it up.

Assuming you wanted five movies, like I usually run, this is what the list looks like at present (and I don't think it has changed in a week at least):

The Iron Giant - 12 votes (19%)

The Brave Little Toaster - 8 votes (13%)

Animal Farm - 6 votes (9%)

Watership Down - 5 votes (8%)

The Land Before Time - 5 votes (8%)

Now is anyone volunteering to run it? If so, pick a weekend and I'll take the night off.

This thread is for sharing tutorials and to hold testing streams, where you are free to commit rookie mistakes. So, ask anything and everything about streams you never dared to ask before!

Just don't ask me. All I know is that Open Broadcast Software should be more than sufficient for the job, and it's the farthest away from malware. Oh, and you need to register on a site to stream. Don't even think about Twitch! Even if you want to stream vidya, that cancer is way too mainstream for us.

And if you've figured out the theory, and want to practice, then we could try to arrange a test stream here. The board is not that big right now, but I'm sure that if nothing else, you can run one before someone else's stream.

Maybe run the first movie of the next movie night. If you fail at it, somebodyMal-2 can still run it instead of you. And if you succeed, then congratulations, you've run out of excuses! So go on, and stream!

Don't expect me to run any streams for you, before you, after you, or in any other way lend technical support. I have decided to cease using the increasingly unreliable (it was always a bit cranky) ConnectCast network, and until/unless I can find a suitable replacement, I am not streaming anything for anyone.

As a corollary, I have also ceded control of >>>/nacht/ to someone who intends to continue offering streams. I remain as a board volunteer but no longer own the channel.

I'm going to open this one up earlier, to allow more time for voting. and hopefully get more votes. These films may not all be shocking by current standards (though most are), but they were when they were released at the very least.

• Antfarm Dickhole

• Beyond the Darkness

• Boxing Helena

• Emanuelle In America

• Faces of Death

• Gummo

• Human Centipede

• I Spit On Your Grave

• Martyrs

• Philosophy of a Knife (double-length, counts as two votes)

• The Piano Teacher

• Salo, or The 120 Days of Sodom

• Santa Sangre

• A Serbian Film

Please leave a comment below with up to five choices. If you want, you can throw two votes at one movie, but you may only do this once and it counts double against your allotment of five (pick only three others). Also, if you choose Philosophy of a Knife, this counts as two movies because of its length so only choose three others.

Write-ins are welcome! If you wish to change your vote later (which you might want to do, based on someone's write-in), make sure to quote the post you're changing. The ID will confirm that it's really you. If you post from multiple locations or networks, you may need to use a tripcode to prove that it's you.

Voting closes Thursday, September 24 at 0700 UTC (midnight Pacific, 3 am Eastern).

Tiebreaking procedure: Add 0.1 votes to anything I picked. If there are still too many to form a clean cut at five, then add 0.1 votes to the next voter's picks. Repeat as necessary with subsequent voters until there are five movies clearly chosen.

ᴇᴅɪᴛ: Cut-off changed to September 24, since next weekend goes to >>>/bane/.

You're way too late, I ran the shock films three weeks ago. Salo didn't make the cut, and wouldn't have even with your vote, but I showed the other two, both of which were worthy. The Human Centipede would have been better suited to Shock Films night than it was for tonight's warm-up show, but I can't say it was a very good movie. Actually, I could say that, but I'd be lying.

What should we look into for the next movie night theme?

• Kaiju

• Action

• Universal (Monsters. Invisible Man, Wolf Man, Mummy, Dracula, Frankenstein)

• Comedy

• Horror (non-Zombie)

• Zombie

…something else we haven't thought of yet

A theme doesn't have to be a topic or genre, it could be another common thread like an actor or a director. Spill it!

For the past few weeks, we've been having Sunday movie nights so that anons with lives making runs on megacorps can still enjoy movie nights. We have watched Blade Runner (required) and Avalon (Japanese Polish film) the last two weeks, and this week's movie is still up in the air. We have a poll going on over here https://needlepoll.net/poll/xtqsru8kq4tf/ and if there is a tie, then we'll use random.org on-stream to decide. Here's the times. All times are Sunday unless otherwise stated:

Your timing couldn't be better as far as I'm concerned. Due to plummeting attendance, I'm going to cut back to one show every two weeks rather than one every week. I don't know if I've just burned everyone out or what, but one of two things will happen. Either attendance will improve with fewer events, or my workload will fall in a manner appropriate to the decreased audience.

You also may wish to consult the "Hostile boards" thread so you have some idea how you may be treated in various places if you send invitations.

You're welcome to start such a thread. I'm not the only one allowed to do so, you know.

Anyhow, I'm awake and running music. Themed music in two hours.

This was the announcement list:

• /nacht/ - of course.

• /film/ - because they're always relevant.

• /tv/ - because they're also relevant.

• /bane/ - because they generally seem to be interested in these, no matter what the theme.

• /monster/ - because I've been explicitly asked to include them, by the board owner.

• /ebola/ - same reason as /bane/

• /eris/ - same reason as /bane/

• /k/ - because of the gun shop scene in Borat in particular.

• /drugs/ - because of the desert tripping scene in B&B.

• /b/ - invited at the last minute as usual.

Don't forget to start voting on next show's movies! >>>/nacht/129 (will be September 26-27, because >>>/bane/ is doing the 19th)

The channel has just one viewer logged in other than me, so the chat is dead. This is supposed to be one of the main points of watching movies together. Otherwise we might as well just watch them separately and discuss at our convenience.

Thus, I want someone to speak up in channel or here in /nacht/ before the end of Borat, or the encore presentation will be cancelled.

OK I'm pulling the plug. Next week belongs to /bane/, I'll take the week after that. From there, I'll only be doing this once every two weeks.

Encores are also being discontinued. It was of marginal value when the viewership was peaking around 35, questionable when it dropped to 25, and this week the peak was 13. Sorry Europe, you can either watch in the wee early hours of your morning with the rest of us, or watch on your own time. I gave the idea well over a month, it just never caught on.

Is Half Baked any good? I can get up at time to see Birds, so that would be the only one I miss.

It would have been better if someone else had run a movie night and I could have sat back and watched… but other than that, it was nice to not have anything to worry about.

Half Baked is funny, or I wouldn't bother running it. The reason it's the Special Feature is that it's rather light-hearted and at times downright silly (Jerry Garcia, anyone?) and pretty much only involves weed.

don't expect too much from the board, we're just a growing community, but maybe if one day this becomes a thing people will actually pick up the idea the board has to begin with and stream their own shit for your and everybody's enjoyment. You just wait.

Actually I was hoping /monster/ would step up and do its significantly overdue Movie Night Part VI.

Fear and Loathing in Los Vegas was my personal favorite from this line up.
