f8d5d0 No.116

Here are the movies I have on my short list currently, in alphabetical order:

• Beavis and Butt-head Do America

• The Blues Brothers

• Borat

• Cannonball Run

• Dumb and Dumber

• Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle

• It Happened One Night (1934)

• Little Miss Sunshine

• Lolita (1997)

• The Motorcycle Diaries

• National Lampoon's Vacation

• Nebraska

• Pee-Wee's Big Adventure

• Planes, Trains and Automobiles

• Rain Man

• Rat Race

• Road Trip

• Sideways

• Smokey and the Bandit

• Thelma and Louise

• Tommy Boy

• Two Lane Blacktop

Please leave a comment below with up to five choices. If you want, you can throw two votes at one movie, but you may only do this once and it counts double against your allotment of five (pick only three others).

Write-ins are welcome! If you wish to change your vote later (which you might want to do, based on someone's write-in), make sure to quote the post you're changing. The ID will confirm that it's really you. If you post from multiple locations or networks, you may need to use a tripcode to prove that it's you.

Voting closes Thursday, September 10 at 0700 UTC (midnight Pacific, 3 am Eastern).

Tiebreaking procedures: Add 0.1 votes to anything I picked. If there are still too many to form a clean cut at five, then add 0.1 votes to the next voter's picks. Repeat as necessary with subsequent voters until there are five movies clearly chosen. This means people who vote early have slightly more influence than those that vote later, but those that vote later can make sure they don't waste a vote on a "loser", so I think it evens out.

Nobody else has chimed in, so guess I'll go first. I obviously won't be doing any write-ins, or I would have put them on the list in the first place.

• Beavis and Butt-head Do America

• The Blues Brothers

• Borat

• It Happened One Night

• Sideways

Like everyone else, I reserve the right to change a vote if someone comes up with a particularly good write-in. Also, my vote counts exactly the same as everyone else's unless there's a tie that must be broken. (Since five or possibly six movies will run, it may not be necessary to break ties.)

I'm up for any of these since I haven't seen most of them. However I do have bad memories of Blues Brothers although I thought it was okay.

The current vote totals are:

████████▌Beavis and Butt-head Do America: 4¼ votes

████████▌It Happened One Night (1934): 4¼ votes

████████▌Smokey and the Bandit: 4¼ votes

██████ The Blues Brothers: 3 votes

  ████▌Borat: 2¼ votes (has tie-break advantage)

–The "cut line"–

  ████▌Lolita (1997): 2¼ votes

     ██▌Dumb & Dumber: 1¼ votes

     ██▌Dutch: 1¼ votes

     ██▌National Lampoon's Vacation: 1¼ votes

██▌Planes, Trains and Automobiles: 1¼ votes

     ██▌Sideways: 1¼ votes

     ██▌Tommy Boy: 1¼ votes

       ▌Everything else: ¼ vote

We now have a write-in, so if you wish to change your vote, you have a bit over 5 hours to do so.

If a movie gets cut by tie-break (as Lolita would currently), it will almost certainly end up in the next Grab Bag Night.

Fug. The first week of the uni was rather busy, and I nearly forgot this.

Anyway

>Lolita

Loli night when?

Also, we should have a thread for tutorials and testing. I'd may run some streams later, but first I have to test out if my toaster is good enough for that.

You're welcome to start such a thread. I'm not the only one allowed to do so, you know.

Anyhow, I'm awake and running music. Themed music in two hours.

This was the announcement list:

• /nacht/ - of course.

• /film/ - because they're always relevant.

• /tv/ - because they're also relevant.

• /bane/ - because they generally seem to be interested in these, no matter what the theme.

• /monster/ - because I've been explicitly asked to include them, by the board owner.

• /ebola/ - same reason as /bane/

• /eris/ - same reason as /bane/

• /k/ - because of the gun shop scene in Borat in particular.

• /drugs/ - because of the desert tripping scene in B&B.

• /b/ - invited at the last minute as usual.

Don't forget to start voting on next show's movies! >>>/nacht/129 (will be September 26-27, because >>>/bane/ is doing the 19th)

The channel has just one viewer logged in other than me, so the chat is dead. This is supposed to be one of the main points of watching movies together. Otherwise we might as well just watch them separately and discuss at our convenience.

Thus, I want someone to speak up in channel or here in /nacht/ before the end of Borat, or the encore presentation will be cancelled.

OK I'm pulling the plug. Next week belongs to /bane/, I'll take the week after that. From there, I'll only be doing this once every two weeks.

Encores are also being discontinued. It was of marginal value when the viewership was peaking around 35, questionable when it dropped to 25, and this week the peak was 13. Sorry Europe, you can either watch in the wee early hours of your morning with the rest of us, or watch on your own time. I gave the idea well over a month, it just never caught on.
