I tried to post to the same threads you did, when they were still alive (which they generally were), so you may not have that much to do. You're still welcome to post the double announcement to all the boards I didn't hit but you did.

With less than an hour to start time, the n1x_ channel is off the air. This may not be the best way to hook people. If you want a countdown timer video that runs at the bottom of the screen (so you can use Windows Movie Maker to add captions for the titles of songs), I can easily provide the one I use for this purpose. It's two hours, but if you want less, WMM makes that pretty simple. (Just pick the desired start time and choose "Set start here"). Then throw the right amount of music in, optionally caption each song with artist and title, and there you go. You have a lead-in. You then have something to hold your viewers when they arrive early. I was going to post "it's starting in under an hour, get in here meatbags" to all the boards I posted to before, but I'm not going to do that if you haven't gone live yet.

ConnectCast is down for everyone, as in the entire site is completely offline.

Even if it comes back up tonight, I'm canceling the showing of Halloween III: Season of the Witch' because I don't feel like waiting to see what happens. If they're still down when it's time to stream the Saturday afternoon movies (3 PM Pacific, 2200 UTC), then those will be cancelled as well.

Well that was fun. After Halloween III I got the spur of the moment idea to throw on Emanuelle In America. While this seemed for quite some time to be a gratuitous selection with no /grim/ relation, it took quite a Srpski Film turn toward the end, veering into an investigation of snuff films that I was not at all expecting.

This is the backup plan if n1x_ doesn't make it back in time:

• If he's not ready to go by the end of my first bumper, I will run two more movies – Pitch Black and Slither. I cannot say if/when the Modern Foreign Horror presentation will be re-scheduled.

• If he does make it back in time to take over after the first film, the two films named above will be run prior to tomorrow's Modern American Horror presentation.

ConnectCast has failed again, just like it did two weeks ago – with SIX MINUTES to go in the first movie. Last time it came back after about 40 minutes so I'll give it up to an hour (assuming anyone stays around).

However, I will probably drop Slither from the schedule and only show two movies because of the delay, assuming we get back on the air at all – and this will be my last stream until/unless I can find a more reliable hosting site. I've fucking had it with ConnectCast.

I hope you had fun. I must now try to find a replacement for ConnectCast, which has become unbelievably shitty lately. It's as if they can't handle the load, so I'll do them the favor of reducing that load.

Unless and until I can find another site that lets me do the same things, I'm retired from streaming. If I decide to just hang it up for good, I will also want to pass this board along to someone who intends to continue streaming. [ᴇᴅɪᴛ: I have given ownership to n1x, though I will remain a board volunteer.]

Here is a list of failures and outages I have personally experienced with ConnectCast.

August 9: Dropped my stream. I did not know to check other streams, nor did I know time sometimes fixes these problems, so I changed stream key and got it working again after about a ten minute delay.

August 16: Chat stopped working, then half an hour later they gave five minutes notice that they were stopping the servers for a software change.

October 23: All streams site-wide went down for about 45 minutes. OBS was unable to connect for that entire time. This was never explained.

October 30: A repeat of the October 23 incident, but preceded by an hour of choppy video that no amount of settings tweaking on my end could alleviate.

October 31 (early am PDT): The entire site is offline and has remained so for about an hour so far.

I don't know what their revenue stream is supposed to be, but if they were hoping to attract a user base that they could then leverage into an ad-supported system or something, they have fucked it up severely enough that they're going to lose that user base, starting with me.
