Barring the unlikely event that this stream suddenly attracts a crowd, it topped out at something like 25 people – 10 less than usual. Whether this is the result of less crossposting or the last minute notices or the movies themselves or some combination thereof, I don't know, but it's still a satisfactory number.

ConnectCast shut down for maintenance with 5 minutes warning midway through the second showing of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. The remainder of the repeated program is being cancelled. Sorry if you were expecting it to happen.

This may have been a technical glitch on their side. I will investigate other streaming services, as I had them drop the ball on me last week too (though much less severely).

I found out why. They decided to implement account verification. Basically, you have to request an e-mail from them, and then read it and click through. This is not unusual or particularly burdensome, but the lack of transparency is appalling. They should have (1) announced the change with more than five minutes' warning (although apparently they implemented the policy a half hour or so prior to stopping the servers, which is why nobody could chat). I would have scheduled around the maintenance interval if I had fucking known about it, and (2) once they implemented it, logged everyone out so that they'd have to log back in and get the "Verify account" notification. Instead, people remained logged in but unable to chat because they had not verified their accounts.

So… that's two strikes in my eyes. They get a free pass on the stream key thing, since that MIGHT have been due to a network event – perhaps I got assigned a new IP address in the middle of the stream. But they get dinged TWICE for their handling of the "Verify Account" thing, once for breaking things without warning and again for not being very transparent about what we needed to do to fix it.

Unfortunately, it looks like every other streaming service associated with Open Broadcaster Software is dedicated to gaming alone, so I don't know what I'll do if ConnectCast continues to fumble. I'll probably just quit.
