Hello fellow comrades, one of the things I believe is needed to discuss is well health and hospitals, as you can see by all these diseases in Africa and the lack of hygiene I believe we should also put an effort on wellness of the people, discuss Disease, precautions, hospitals, medicine, food hygiene and all such relating to health and well being in Namibia

>>1212So, I think travel vaccinations are a must, if we can get doctors to come that will be great. We should also bring supplies of medication, first aid kits and have people always ordering what are lowest medicine supply is.

If it's a vaccine /pol/ made, I'd trust it over an American vaccine.
You guys aren't fucking kikes.

My cousin is a Doctor and might be willing to come with us.
We don't really need to worry about hygiene as much as the natives because we plan to be separate and we know to wash our hands (hopefully)

>>1166Medical supplies are a must, and we would need trained medical personnel. I am more an Engineer/Military type, so finding doctors (or even Med students) would be important. We need to study the Natural wildlife in the area, predominantly the poisonous ones (snakes/spiders) to make sure we have anti-venom. Things like Hy-peroxide, rubbing alcohol, penicillin, and sterile supplies (ie rubber gloves, facemasks) are very important.

>>1166We shouldn't be quick to follow America's standard of health. The last thing we need is a population of people on prescribed medications like Ritalin, Xanax, etc that treat only symptoms but never address any of the root problems. America's health INDUSTRY is designed to keep people sick and fund the trillion dollar conglomerates.
With that said, we should work to reinvigorate the field. I would like to see a healthy population eating the right sorts of food.
Vitamin C therapy should be a must.

>>1332Yeah, and we need to reserve antibiotics for very rare cases. We need strong immune systems, not waste everything fighting off minor illness and then when some massive fucking plague comes through, we'd be decimated

i'd love to join the cause, but i have type 1 diabetes and Namibian healthcare would make it damn difficult to get my insulin regularly.

What are everyone's thoughts on GMOs? Assuming we did gain some kind of influence in government, I'd vote in favor of banning them.
Also, what is the current healthcare system like in Namibia? How many hospitals are there?

Public healthcare system is extremely bad
Private is quite good actually
I trust we will be making lots of money so we will be able to afford it

What's the fauna situation over there? I'm not talking about big predators, but small, venemous creatures. Insects, snakes, spiders, the like.

>>2897>I trust we will be making lots of money so we will be able to afford itHow? Mining diamonds or some other jewel? Selling crops? Some anon mentioned selling glass because tons of sand.
With the price of real estate what it is over there, I'm really considering jumping on this, although I wouldn't be able to do it for at least a few years.
>>2905>GMO, non-GMO, its all the sameThat's not really true though. I wasn't referring to stuff that's selectively bred. I was more talking about the GMOs that take parts from one plant (on a cellular level) and insert those parts in a completely different plant, hoping to recreate a certain trait in the plant receiving the parts.
I didn't word that very well, but I hope you can understand what I mean.
>>2894>This is already a very tech-savvy endeavor. GMOs aren't unsafe per se.What exactly do you mean by "tech savvy"?
Also, I'm not saying GMOs are unsafe in and of themselves, but I'm actively avoiding them until more research is done. Not enough is really known about GMOs to make a conclusive decision as to whether they are harmful or not.

I think proper health care and an amount of people with medical knowledge is one of the most important things for this mission, least someone catches a bad disease and the whole settlement dies of sickness because of a lack of professional doctors and/or nurses.
So, bumping this thread, bump!

i believe a simple but well stocked facility will do wonders. depending on where we settle; we may be able to provide medical services to remote communities.

what's the problem with GMOs? they resist pests and they might be useful in the desert.
just because it's genetically modified it doesn't mean it's poison. that's quite unlikely actually.
the biggest problems iwth GMOs are:
if you lose one fertile seed you might overrun wildlife with unnatural plants. joke on them we are in a desert.
the sector is controlled by monsanto, which just sell you "not fertile seeds" ( in the sense that they will give us plants and seedless fruits) for maximum jewiness.
but if it's profitable for us we shouldn't care about their gain.

also namibia seems to have public healthcare. we should probably rely on that sinc we will probably pay taxes for it anyway ( not sure how it works, but taxes are decently high).
it's a given that having our own village we will get one hospital at some point and we can choose if powering it up with donations or creating a private clinic that offers different services. but for a starter we will probably go public.
