I vote for German or English as the official languages of Our new nation. What do you guys Think?

2394ba No.121

>>119
I agree, maybe Afrikaans could be official as well?

78558c No.122

Definitely English as it seems 99% of people in these threads speak it. German could help us attract people as well, so that sounds good.

But why Afrikaans over Dutch? I hear they're mutually intelligible.

00cd38 No.125

>>122
Yep English is our best bet

84d8f3 No.127

English, German, and Afrikaans.

English will be the official language, the locals can use any of aforementioned languages.

Another vote for English and Afrikaans. Don't Namibians speak English as well? I watched a few videos from their country and they all seemed to speak English. I only added Afrikaans because there are a lot of white Africans who already speak it so we want to appeal to them the best we can.

2394ba No.141

They speak either German or English.

1551e3 No.144

>>119
Voting for Afrikaans.

>>122
Afrikaans is widely spoken in Namibia also in Southern Africa. Its the Afrikaans people who are going to support you expect a lot of opposition from African English speakers. Afrikaans is also a simplified version of dutch basically, if you are going to learn a new language might as well take the less complicated root

Laat die droom waar word.

e2a588 No.146

English, German, and French. It allows the community to retain links with the European powers and it gives it the ability to talk with the rest of the African continent. Also, a distinct culture would emerge from using and learning/knowing the 3 languages.

why not both ?

ecff65 No.173

Why is this even a question? English

4f5613 No.184

English, German, and Afrikaans are all spoken in Namibia at varying degrees. I say we recognize all three.

ecff65 No.209

what about latin?

dc6e39 No.224

Perhaps we could be like Canada and be "trilingual" with English, German and Afrikaans all holding official status.

English no doubt, more people speak it. If we have english instead of German, we wouldn't need to waste tax money to teach english to kids.

We could just say we recognize all European languages also?

German because a lot of the existing white population speaks German, should honor their heritage.

great, I speak both German and English, so this is fine by me.

066880 No.362

Let's have English and afrikann as our main languages, and german as a recognized language, since many still speak it.
I wonder if it would be possible to also at least teach Latin to the youth.resurrect it

1dc98f No.366

>>362
Many private schools, esp. Catholic ones, teach Latin here in US, so that would be easy, of course, it would be impractical for common use.

We should encourage very citizen to know English and Afrikaans at least.
If this succeeds we'll probably blend over time into some new form of blended Afrikaans and English, with hints of German.

Anyone willing to give some examples of Afrikaans?

Also protip: English is the official language for Namibia. Useful for trade/negotiations.

We can have English, Afrikaans, and German as officialy recognized languages, guys. English can just be the main business language, but it would be bad form to not recognize the native white's tongues.

57db2e No.668

English and Afrikaans. I'd advocate Sambhasa or a Germanic-ish conlang over Esperanto, if we're going with that language; the only native speaker of Esperanto is Geroge Soros.

dd1980 No.769

Agreed. English, German, and Afrikaans as official languages with recognized tribal dialects.

45d701 No.805

>>339
no Esperanto was invented by commies. We don't want that shit here.

7a464f No.824

We should standardize an officially designated English reformed-dialect

English is a very inconsistent language in spelling, grammar, and lexicon (minute vs minute.etc) we must have a legally reformed edition of the English language with such inconsistencies removed

bf9cdd No.835

>>119
Everyone here is fluent in English. Why don't we just make it so nobody has to learn a new language, and make the official language English>

da8619 No.958

Afrikaans all the way. It's simpler than Dutch, but contains elements of German and English mixed into it. I've already started learning, and it's pretty comfortable. It's mostly vocabulary.

d205ed No.963

German and Afrikaans. Or, if possible, there could be a melding of the two languages over time and that new iron-language could be it… Germanokaans.

If you think German would make a good official language to the exclusion of English, let us switch the board language to German and conduct all discussion in German from here on in.

Yeah? Nah. That's what I thought.

English, Afrikaans - co-official. As other posters have pointed out, Afrikaans is the language spoken by the people you're most likely to get support from and who have the skills and experience you need. (What experience? Africa. Rule 1 of Africa is "you do not understand Africa".)

4f5613 No.994

>>972
You do not understand Namibia.

It had German as an official language until the anti-racist niggers took office, because the whites SPEAK GERMAN.

Why can't we just be trilingual?

German, Afrikaans, English!

All three have a strong tradition amongst the whites of Southern Africa, especially in Namibia.

294101 No.1007

The only reason places have official languages is to keep it alive (eg Welsh in Wales is co offical with English) so White namibians speak Afrikaans first (at 60ish percent) then German (at 30 percent) and English at about 1%, I assume the reason for English is because we all fucking speak it, but hey if we need all the support we can get

c1f51f No.1033

>>994
>>1007
I see! Forgive me, I did not do my research and spoke crap as a result.

I do believe English would naturally end up as a primary language of this settlement simply because of the number of interested English speakers.

Trilingual would be the way to go. The only problem with having more than one official language (assuming independence is gained) is that you have to write your laws and government materials is all official languages, then specify which of those languages controls or allow courts to sort conflicts out. Either way, there's an efficiency hit.

4f5613 No.1074

>>1033
This all fails without local whites. Local whites, when they come, will speak these languages. I also speak German (as well as a couple of other language) but not Afrikaans, but we'll deal with that in time.

7db917 No.1079

>>119
Afrikaans and English are the most practical. We can offer German as a supported language and teach it in schools as an option. English should be our official language.

>>121
Why not all of the above?

02b972 No.1838

English, although German and Afrikaans would be fine.

5ce452 No.1842

English/German/Afrikaans is obvious.

That was the pre-1990 status quo after all.

b3071d No.1844

mix it with english and german

make it easy to speak

5ce452 No.1845

>>1079
Not including German would be an insult to local whites. SWA was traditionally trilingual, there's no reason to deliberately exclude people by snubbing their language. You don't fuck with that shit in Africa.

02b972 No.1852

What about Portuguese? Since they colonized Mozambique and Angola.

5ce452 No.1855

>>1852
Funny I thought there were practically no Portuguese in Namibia, but it turns out they represent up to 5% of the total population, even including blacks!

First language should be based english. Second language should be Dutch to try and entice Boers to come to Namibia with their skills and aryaness

5da6e3 No.5497

I would imagine english would be the primary since everybody here obviously speaks it, and afrikaaner since that is the most common language outside of native/tribal tongue in the south of africa

05da85 No.5531

Afrikaans and English are needed for both attracting an international audience and a local white population. If you think German would be any use, you have your head in the clouds.

Novial, no, seriously.

Is an artificial language, like esperanto, but much more regular an natural for western speakers.

The estimated amount of study for becoming proficient with it is ~150 hours, compare it with the 3000 of French or English.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novial

Plus, a new language won't give advantages to the diferent citizens depending of their mother language, everyone would have to learn it from zero.

See how dumb this sounds? This is why Socialism always fails, because your stupid leader makes a stupid decision which ruins everything, like invading russia without winter boots. Just let let everyone speak whichever language they want to and the most popular one(s) will rise to the top.

It's not that simple bro, at least one language has to be spoken for the minimal amount of government we want (unless you are Ancap, in which case why are you here?). What language are the courts going to speak and the constitution written in? We just can't google translate laws from English to German and expect the meaning to be the same. I would support >>224 but I would need to see how Switzerland and Canada have made it work.

Too be clear though, if you want to speak some disgusting poor people European language like Italian or Greek at home you shouldn't be forced from doing so. However, when your libertarian ass calls the police to file a noise complaint against me, we can't afford to be lost in translation.
