Can we, the new 8chan nation, have a law on open source software to help deter the NSA?

Please don't tell me you guys are going to bring over windows and apple computers to encourage the NSA to track every single one of us through backdoors, ESPECIALLY with all the new laws and regulations they are trying to implement.

I'm sure many of us Linux users would be glad to teach you all about linux, as long as we can be more secure.

Also Systemd distros, yay or nay?

c7884d No.1891

This sounds like a good idea.

Not with the way SJW's are fucking up linux it isn't. It may need forked in the near future.

eab3ce No.1921

No problem with Windows machines as long as they don't have any outside communication capabilities and aren't used for mission-critical things at the same time. You don't have to use the most recent Windows release either.

You have to be practical and realize that 100% of people involved will be able to use Windows and software coded for it without any external assistance, but a lot less so with Linux.

And if you're so tinfoil that you think that Windows is so unsafe that it should be outright banned, then you might as well ditch computing altogether because the hardware could have unknown backdoors in it as well, and they would be a lot harder to detect and defend against than software vulnerabilities.

How do you know that your motherboard doesn't keylog USB ports and hand over the data to the NSA through your ethernet card or other vectors, doing everything in a way that your OS and router are completely oblivious to? (or totally compliant with?) You don't.

Retards that think "SJWs are destroying linux" should be given two options:

Execution, or technical competence and experience administrating more than their shitty personal mail server.

They wouldn't whine about redhat bloatware after that. Nobody does. The UNIX design doesn't scale and needs dirty hacks to be useful in the 21st century. Yes, plan 9's design (the OS was the future, not that steaming pile of 1990s shit called "rio") was (WAS) the future, but bell labs fucked it up with a dedication to purity, incompatibility, and keyboard-phobia (that steaming pile of 1990s shit called "rio") that made autists cream themselves.

We will finally have a nation free of suckless tards

876689 No.1928

Hey man, as long as systemd doesn't take up too many things and gets it's bugs ironed out, I don't have a problem with it. I don't want it to become the whole entire OS.

Debian-based distros are probably preferable.

Sending the "open source police" to punish people for downloading and using stuff is ridiculous. I agree on enforcing any software developed locally to be open source however.

We can make our own version of Linux.

It's highly likely the world will attempt a blockade on us at some moment we NEED to be as self reliant as possible and technology is obviously the future, while agriculture is paramount in the short run, it would be nice if our settlement were a tech "nation".

It would probably be best just to create a new distro altogether since most distros now come with SELinux.

Also Intel CPUs should be avoided since they send all your information to Mossad.

Open Hardware with verifiable BOMs and block diagrams solves this problem reasonably well.

Tell me you're not this dumb. You can just choose not to install SELinux on most distros.

3bb313 No.5608

No, no, no. We need to establish a stable community in Namibia. IF we all start using linux, we're just one distro-war away from being wiped out.

Manjaro is best distro, btw

Fellow archfag here and I approve of this proposal OP

b3c4c4 No.5959

Archlinux allows some proprietary software.
I agree that windows is basically just an open invitation to listen and watch you 24/7
NSAkey, the original NSA backdoor in microsoft, lotus and netscape products was one of the reasons why governments and businesses started switching to linux, but we face so many challenges from the hardware side, that the operating system isn't as important anymore. The UEFI bios on modern mainoards has all the core functionalities of an operating system, and even the new soundcard, southbridge, northridge, gpu, cpu etc. can spy on you.
Even if we had open source hardware it would be difficult to oversee everything, given the amount of data and obfuscation through obscurity. The most transparent system is a simple system.

876689 No.5984

File: 1422374878441.png (89.9 KB, 445x480, 89:96, 1297351377257.png)

My general idea is that we should in time set up a system. This system probably has plenty of holes I wouldn't be surprised if this system idea makes me look like pic related, so feel free to improve what I've said or completely disregard it:

1: If your bios, router, or internet connective device cannot be flashed with open source software leave them behind. No cellphones or GPS things allowed at first. Technology that people bring in will be checked for trackers. This is a process these people can watch if they wish, to ensure trust.

2: A government organization set up to be as reasonably transparent as possible, and also open to reasonable public contribution will do research on open source and steer people in the right direction on what hardware they can purchase has the best non proprietary Linux support to ensure as much optimal performance as possible. That way fewer people will complain about Linux.

This organization will also take part in developing drivers and giving routers and motherboards open software support to ensure the nation isn't stuck with the same old crap. That being said, this organization isn't solely responsible, they just help. Obviously other devices like internet capable TV's will be flashed too, especially if they are to work with the nations nation exclusive privacy built network.

3: We could fork a distro to our needs to save manpower at first, and within time and necessary resources have our own. It would be great if we could set up a system to where people can make their own secure distros too. Freedom is great, but cyber security needs handled delicately to ensure that shit doesn't become 1984.

4: So gamers don't kill themselves from being stuck with the few open source games there are until shit gets more organized, we can set up arcades that follow government standards. These will be one of the few places with proprietary software not allowed to leave the building, they will have both arcade machines and consoles both old and new (and try to keep a steady stream of game imports) and this setup will hopefully promote the great competitive social activity that arcades had in the past.

5. Hopefully within time we can set up a good government regulated open hardware system with phones and GPS systems taking front seat. But hopefully at this point the phones will not be traditional phones, and people will be able to be reached through wireless internet connections, and possibly have an out of nation calling service where people are warned foreign governments may be listening in, which is somewhat similar to how skype makes phone calls.

Can I get a download link for that? Apparently it was on TPB, but since they shut down, I can't find it.

That's nine months out of the year or more for guys to go easy on the cheesy smelling sleazy.

The notion that nonreproductive sexual activity is an evil is entirely jewish in origin. Moderate porn consumption and masturbation should be fine for expecting fathers.

ccb494 No.6618

i think using linux in general is worth it because of as stated the holes in windows

the other important thing to understand is that we are already being watched, feds join any organization that does anything fishy to watch them. We should just assume that everyone could be a fed.

when it comes to infrastructure we should use plan 9 and also decentralize the whole internet once we get one by building a mesh net

the other thing we could do is setup a local only internet for file sharing and communication, we don't need outside internet if everyone brings their hard drives
